TOPIC: Welcome to Freo Brodie

Bizkit Welcome to Freo Brodie 2 years 6 months ago #1

He grew up a Freo fan due to living in the same town as Michael Barlow and idolising him as a kid. Now he's got his chance to play for us and I can't wait to see him in action.

A 190cm midfielder who is great in a contest and quite good in the air, he had a few injuries in his first couple of years before stringing an impressive run of performances in his third year where he averaged 21.6 touches, 4.3 marks and 5.5 tackles from 8 games. The addition of Greenwood, Rowell and Anderson restricted his games played last season while the same happened again this year despite an impressive preseason.

He seems like a fantastic person (clearly being a Freo fan) and someone who is willing to put in the hard yards to succeed. He'll learn a lot under Mundy and Fyfe who he'll likely mold his game on and provide a chop out for in the middle. He'll be a big body to help watch out for the kids while still having a long career ahead.

Welcome Will.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Just searching through the archives on the AFL site interested to see what Cal Twomey had to say about Will Brodie back in 2016.
Interesting to see Cal Twomey had us slotted to draft Brodie... Callum Twomeys 2016 Phantom Draft

WILL BRODIE
23/8/98, 189cm, 82kg
Murray Bushrangers

Brodie did his best work for the season in the first half of the year. That shouldn't be forgotten, particularly his back-to-back best afield games against VFL teams in April and then his form at the under-18 championships. The tall midfielder is a clearance winner but he does have a burst of pace to get out of a stoppage and into space. He backs up his effort and is a determined, hard-edged prospect. Brodie has been seen as a possible 'slider' but the Dockers could add him to their midfield knowing he can play almost right away.
Will Brodie is a confident tough nut with plenty to offer.

But we picked up Griffin Logue instead.

I sometimes think that we paid overs for Logue (pick 8) but those around him at pick 7 and 9 haven’t shamed us. Don’t get me wrong, I think Griff is a good pickup and a solid, competent player and will probably rack up 100+ games, but I don’t see him as a top 10 pick (it’s probably splitting hairs but 15-20 would seem to be more appropriate). It’s interesting that Freo now have Brodie who was pick 9 in the same draft. Hopefully he will also become a 100+ gamer.

Yep, seems like a good bloke and I'm glad he's with us. He sounds like Clark and many other players before that. Just an idea that might make things more streamlined at these pressers: cut out the middle man - put one of those cardboard picture masks on Luke Morfesse and just get him to answer the questions.
