Another win for the scraggers of the competition. The pundits say we need to have more free flowing football in order to attract more spectators to the game which would require more stringent officiating by the umpires. Claremont who were the highest scorers during the season have been dragged down 2 weeks in a row by ultra defensive scragging tactics by West Perth and now South Fremantle. I'd love to know what has happened to the 50 metre rule. It was my belief that if a player took a mark and was then pushed over, hit or in any way interfered with by an opposition player not involved in the marking contest then a 50 metre penalty would be imposed yet players are allowed to impede and flatten players who have taken a mark well after the event with no penalty. Am I correct or has this rule been removed. There were countless instances in today's game where Claremont players were tackled after marking and this greatly frustrated their run on style of play. I hope South get the belting they deserve from Subi next week. I've got nothing against close checking but it should be within the rules and thuggery not rubber stamped by the men in charge.
This non payment of 50s is also prevalent the AFL as well whilst a player who inadvertently wanders close to a player taking his kick but not hindering them is hit with 50 quite often.
