The Goodwin snub, and subsequent blaming of Goodwin for not forcibly inserting himself into the situation, was very on-brand for Basil and completely risible.

But anyone who has heard Embley speak must recognise that inadvertent as it was, Basil was probably doing everyone, including Embley a favour by keeping the microphone away from him.

He sounds like if Kermit the Frog was a jockey.

Here's a funny thought. While I was waiting - interminably - for Basil to address the gaffe on the radio yesterday, one of the obsfuscating topics they discussed was 'ghosting' in social situations. I thought, it's like when Basil ghosted Goodwin, right?

So here I am in Fitzroy (just around the corner from Cerra’s new digs) talking to a dyed in the wool old Fitzroy fan and we were discussing the GF and he mentioned the balls up by Basil. Being a non WA footy follower he kind of knows who Basil is (an occasional sports commentator) but he thought I was joking when I told him he was mayor of Perth. It seriously took me a few minutes and a Google search to prove it to him. He couldn’t believe how such a light weight could hold the position. Totally cracked him up!

For comparison I googled the mayor of Melbourne. Three pages in I found him. I think the main criteria for any mayoral job in Australia is if you can fill in an order form on Vista Print or not. Obviously Basil has someone to do it for him but the bar is still not very high.
