TOPIC: Bris v Melb

Hogan- 6 contested marks. We battle to take 6 marks of any description in our forward line most weeks.
GWS have taken a sensible approach with him and managing him well with regards to his fitness and mental state. Something we failed to do.. He's been a regular goal kicker in each game he's played for them and Cameron has praised his ability and their willingness to see him as a long term option.
I hope he does well but it's incredibly frustrating that a talented footballer who always wanted to play for us was let go for peanuts.
Along with McPharlin he is the most talented big player we've brought back to the club and at this stage it could be another Freo fail. Great for him personally, but a talent wasted by us.

CA, do you think his problems are related to off-field influences here in WA, that are affecting his ability to concentrate on his footy the way he has at Melbourne & GWS. Not all good mates are "good" mates, if you know what i mean.

I think you may be on the money to some extent RM. In a post game interview, Hogan said he was enjoying being out of Perth's footy bubble (no mention of bad influences, rather the impact of pressure and expectations). He also pointed to a very conservative approach to going back to basics when looking after his body. We may not have been able to do anything about the footy bubble, however, we should have been able to assist with his physical rehab (but even that may not have been enough).

Freo fail? We bring the guy over here to help him out and he fails to conduct himself in a reasonable way and sells us short.

Oh, we just brought him back here out of the goodness of our heart, just to help him out?

We have a history of not actually helping players out when the going gets tough, having big injury issues that weren't there at their previous clubs, or trading away players who go onto greater success at other clubs. Whether that's down to bad luck, bad management or because we notice more at our own club I don't know. But the balance is sure skewed in the negative our way.

Never should have gone there and then never should have left.

He's our own little Afghanistan.

I accept it can be hard to know from a distance, but surely CA you don’t place the car-flipping and COVID “can’t keep it in my pants” breach as being the club’s fault over and above Hogan’s fault?

No, why would I or anyone blame the club for a car accident?
And if we're going to talk covid breaches, we have an ass coach who has been suspended for four games and received a $25 000 fine by the AFL. Do you reckon he'll be moved on?
We also had a drunk coach who harrassed a young girl who received a payout/hush money which the club did it's best to sweep under the carpet.
Double standards?

CA , the topic here is Hogan and whether you can say his failure at Freo as a player is at the feet of the football club. Nothing to do with Ross’s negotiated exit, and how you can lump Josh Carr’s recent brain fades into the same basket I’m gob-smacked.

let’s compare apples with apples here

I can’t think of anything more apples for apples than two people having brain fades and breaching COVID protocols.
One was a 20 something player who’d been away for 6 weeks, the other was a 30 something assistant coach who copped a 4 week suspension.

I'm gobsmacked too. Where did I mention Lyon's negotiated exit? His indiscretion had nothing to do with his exit.

We obviously don't agree on our variety of apples.

either way, the club’s treatment of Carr and Lyon doesn’t support an argument that Hogan’s failures were due to the club not doing enough to help him.

and, surely it’s Pink Ladies for eating, Granny Smiths for stewing. that’s beyond debate.

Perhaps not, but I still think the apples seem to be looked at differently by the club and the media and it does smack of double standards imo.

Firstly with regards to the car accident. Personally I don't see that as relevant to anything about him or anyone else at the club who did anything similar. No damage to anyone else's property or vehicle, nobody injured, no excess alchol and no charges laid.
I do find the treatment of the Lyon and Hogan incidents mentioned totally different. In one case you have a marriried man in his 50s? with teenage children of his own, harrassing and being lewd to a teenage girl waiting at his table, whilst drunk. The club does it's utmost to keep this as low profile as possible and makes a payment to her to keep it quiet.
On the other hand, a footballer in his 20s with health and mental issues is thrown under the bus with his name splashed on the front page of the local rag for sneaking a girl into his room when he shouldn't have and pays the fine himself with the club saying nothing.
Even when Buckley did the same thing and got his ass. coach to act as his cover it didn't get as much coverage.
