TOPIC: Coniglio for Cerra?

I'm hearing rumours through family that this is being considered. Probably 3 way with Carlton.

Coniglio not a full replacement, so maybe a draft pick somewhere, too.

Anyone else hearing this?

All the bright things I can see in our future are coming from the kids we have drafted. Most of the downside comes from the many players we have traded in who are mostly very average list fillers.

Go to the draft wherever possible. Actually target key forwards. Draft local when possible. Stop trading players in to the club who weren't that good at their original club. Hopefully in 3-5 years the list is then strong enough to play in a grand final at the mcg with covid in the rear mirror.

I'm hearing rumours through family that mum is not doing Christmas at her place. She's not provided any updates on potential trades however. Keep you all posted.

Have you got alternative plans in place, Hypen, in case mum sends you all to Tassie for Xmas?

I hope not. Coniglio, that is. Hypen's Christmas venue I'm rather ambivalent about.

I'm not ambivalent - his Mum does a cracker Christmas lunch.

East Coast media reps have walked their usual contradictory, conflicted and vested path over Cerra this year.

They started paying attention when he was a chance to go home, and then figured out how good he already is, and could be.

Then they started potting him and saying don't pay overs.

If he was a WA kid potentially travelling West and not a Vic kid travelling East it'd be two first rounders and calls for new contract rules making it harder to move.

As he is out of contract we certainly have less control but hoping they/we stay strong in negotiations.

Take picks for this year. Or even first rounders for next year and maybe then keep or on-trade those.

The only player I think we should keep an eye on is Jordan Clark (unless someone knows the next Josh Kennedy i.e. WA Key forward with a Vic team who we can get as part of the trade) although with Chapman, Ryan and Young keen to hear others thoughts on if we got him where we'd play him?

Keep an eye on Clark so we can quickly avoid him if he’s walking our way you mean?

Wingman.

I still like Narkle as a youngish big bodied midfielder. Although It's obvious that our forward line is the biggest area of concern and I don't know of any key forwards looking for a new home.

Coniglio is aging (28 in a few months) and banged up, he's had a lot of injuries that have slowed him down and drastically reduced his impact. He's not even in GWS best midfeld anymore. Why would we want a bloke who struggles to get on the field and only has a couple years left when we can develop our kids into 10 year midfielders?

You wouldn't look at Cogs unless he came over for nothing as a free agent (I'm pretty sure he has a big contract too so would cost a huge chunk of our salary cap).

Clark I'd look at for a late pick which is about his worth considering he isn't getting a gig in dad's army at the Cats. Realistically he's much more valuable than that but injuries and the Cats trading in a bunch of 30 year olds have held him back and lowered his worth on the trade market. I still believe he'll be a fantastic winger with a proper pre-season and some more experience.

Narkle I don't rate, he's been in the AFL for 6 years and struggled to make an impact whatsoever.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

I'd go with draft picks for Cerra if we can't keep him. A first round + a second round as a minimum.
Possible forwards to chase - Logan MacDonald (Syd) or Sam Weideman (Melb).

If Lobb does want out then Luke Jackson from Melbourne would be the ultimate replacement, however we have no hope of getting him.
