TOPIC: Chris Connolly on The Front Bar

Someone throw money at this man and get him back at Freo. Not to replace JL, but just for his energy and enthusiasm. My god, he was pretty much bouncing off the walls telling his stories. I can’t remember the last time I’ve laughed so much.

He spoke of his love for Freo when he was here, the importance of getting out in the community to boost our presence and coverage. I understand the circumstances we were in when he and Cameron Schwab arrived and they both worked wonders. He talked of the importance of winning the Derby and how he hated being disrespected by the AFL. He was always noticing when we were treated poorly compared to other teams and he said they were constantly in the AFL’s ear complaining and berating and annoying them. It’s exactly what most on here have been saying we need over the past week.

If you get a chance to watch his segments, do so. And if you can think of a way to get him back in purple, do that too.

That will do for starters.

They even showed Sirengate and got him to talk them through it. Just seeing him storm onto the ground in a rage makes me realise that would never happen now. We’d politely sit back and wait for due process to take its course.

We need grunt. We need a fire in our belly. We need people at the club who want to fight for us and demand fair treatment.

Chris along with Schwab and Hart turned our club around and did an incredible job of building us up and making us relevant. It's a shame we turned on what they built in the early 2010's to become OOFTIT lite.

The bloke had passion and drew fans into stadiums to jump on the bandwagon. It was infectious and exactly what we needed. He may have come over from the East but he quickly bled purple and embraced who we are as a club. It's these sorts of people that build a culture and club to be proud of (and is really the opposite of people like RL and the Steve's).

I feel the same from JLo although with less of the energy and buzz. He bleeds purple, has passion and love for the club, it's players and fans. He's a smart operator who was taught by Chris and is leading us well. I'm excited about our future again, much like 2003 under Chris or 2010 under Harvs. I hope the rest of you are too.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

I wouldn't want to lose JL either. I think he's "one of us" and hopefully will take us all the way in the coming years.

Chris, Cameron and Rick Hart were just out there, loud and proud. We were always a presence, whether others liked it or not. To have that infectious passion back among the club and the supporters would be great. Unfortunately we lost a lot of that by moving out of Freo. I live 30 Ks from Freo, but would often go down to the oval, shop at the store, grab a coffee in Freo, and always spot a player or two roaming around. When we made the finals, there was no better place to be. I think every store front was decorated in purple and the place was buzzing. When we make the finals again, I won't be visiting Cockburn. It's a nothing place as far as I'm concerned. It doesn't hold a piece of my heart like Fremantle does.

We need that passion back.

There was definitely plenty of energy about since then we’ve become very professional and haven’t said boo.
Harvey brought a hardness to our footy. Lyon brought a disciplined united infield approach, which worked with the list he got. He also had us tow the AFL line.

I loved having Chris Connolly as the coach. Even if we weren't winning, I always loved listening to his vision of which he lived and breathed.

Spot on Shane: ""professional" ie Corporate"

I blame the Steve's more than RoLy. Rosich and Harris were more interested in what they could get out of Freo than what Freo could get from them. Most early supporters were drawn to the club because it wasn't a corporate body like the WCE. We wanted something that was a more genuine representation of our community, its grass roots footy and the passion that comes with it. The Steve's were corporate marketing men who thought that a change of jumper and some flash facilities would win us premierships and, more importantly for them, win them some additional spotlight. I'd like to be able to expand on this as I was involved with Rosich during the negotiations over the future location of FFC around 2015 - suffice to say that it was an extremely disappointing experience - however, anything more on that might need to be edited out of this post.
Funny how clubs like Hawthorn and Geelong have stayed true to their past (identity/soul?) and remained successful at the same time that we appear to have lost our way. Hopefully we can get back to the type of belief and self confidence that CC showed on the Front Bar and shake things up a bit.

Yes WTB, we all remember how the move to Cockburn was decided without consultation and against the wishes of most supporters. It was a dark era for the club.

I'd like to wager,
-Fremantle won more derbies wearing the anchor jumper while based in Fremantle,
than
-Wearing the chervon jumper while relocated to Cockburn ?
