Not the away jumper Cletus - the home jumper. And every now and then, we can wear the chevrons as a reminder of what can happen if you let the wrong people get control of your club.

I get that. I cant sit there after every disappointing loss and say they lack effort. As you cant say they are tired.

What, they weren't tired yesterday but were last week in the second half against Sydney and then for the whole game against Geelong?

The marketing gurus will always be in control of how a team is represented, but it was uplifting to see our club embracing the whole anchor legacy yesterday. More than anything it just celebrated our Steve Free freedom once again. Everyone who was there yesterday had a ball, despite the conditions - it was like the old days, loud and fun.

Speaking of gurus. I'm starting to feel a bit like I buy a ticket to see the ads and they play a bit of football in between.

What are you talking about? The game day presentation is amazing.

As an aside, in my youth I was a singer-songwriter who wrote very middle-of-the-road four-chord ballads. I also liked to play slowed-down, stripped-back acoustic covers of rock songs, you know, to show my feelings.

I’m thinking of playing at quarter time at a Freo game. What do you reckon my prospects are?

What game day presentation? It’s all noise to me but I don’t mind a good rev up song before the game and quarters.

I go to watch the footy and catch up with folks around me, have a laugh, do the Freo chant and hope we win.

Hey Morgan, I didn't know the song that bloke played at quarter time, but I liked it. One of the few bits of noise I liked.
And stop bragging about 4 chords.

I'm never quite sure who Triple M are aiming their radio station at but I'm pretty sure it's not the People Who Don't Know Mr Brightside demographic.

I actually forego my three-quarter time smoke break to catch the Containers for Change competition - whatever they do, it's a screamer of a contest.

Having not kept a close eye on things, I tuned into the game and immediately assumed we were watching a 90s flashback game. I mean Mundy was there, but then so was Brayshaw.

Then I caught up, and realised that Steves had finally left the building. In their day not even that pantone of purple was uttered.

There were plenty of heroes yesterday, but can we take a moment to consider how awesome Hayden Young was in his 10th game? It felt like he was everywhere, including defending Bolton who looked like the one player other than Jack Riewoldt capable of winning the game for Richmond. His poise under pressure was fantastic, and some of his scything kicks into the middle from half-back were incredible. If we can keep him on the park, he looks like a 200 game player.

I think this might answer questions around fatigue and how players turned their form around. From JL's presser:

You mentioned you guys had a bit of fun leading up to the game and the joke at Belly’s expense. What can you tell us on that front?
Sometimes you get so busy in footy and one week rolls into the next, sometimes you just need to take a little bit of a back step and have a bit of fun. It’s been grueling. Like I said, it starts being grueling last five, six weeks, and now we're down on staff and half the playing group or some of the playing group is not with us. They're out of quarantine. So you just have to have some light moments. Our players are pretty good at that. But yeah, coaches can get better, not saying my gags are any good, by the way.

Just letting the players relax a bit and have fun instead of grinding out the season is a big part of retaining the enjoyment that leads to team success, something I think has been forgotten by the "Business Model" coaches.

Their have been some negative comments around Liam Henry grubbering kicks in yesterdays game, I thought at least 3 of those, and that may have been all he "miskicked", were intentionally done to provide a smaller player an advantage in our forward 50. When we went in high, too often we were outmarked, and he seemed to deliberately fire the footy along the turf.

I think at times Henry’s brain is just running a little faster than his hands and feet at the moment. You could see that a couple of times yesterday, including in the last quarter when he basically dropped a sitter I think because he was too excited. The game will slow down for him, and he’ll be a ripper; but he does need to tidy up some of his kicking a little.

When players have the vision and feel to be able to see a difficult pass, it sometimes means they are more likely to miss with their kicks. Michael Johnson was a good example of someone who would occasionally shin the ball directly to an opponent, and cost Freo a goal here and there, but it was because he was the one bloke in that defensive unit who could see the potentially attacking pass.

I thought Henry looked a lot better up the ground and then pushing forward, for what it’s worth.
