None. Clarko is the best coach without a doubt, but JLo is better - because he's JLo. Put the two of them in front of me and say "Money's no problem, take a coach Polly to coach your football team" and I would take JLo every time. Without hesitation.

Disagree with you on this one Morgan
I can understand the anti Hawk/Clarkson/Mitchell/Kennett sentiment on here but Clarksons the best coach (in terms of pure game day coaching and strategy) Ive ever seen. Thats not necessarily based on how many flags he won either, although it helps.

If he was coaching Freo in 2013 and Roly was coaching the Hawks, the GF result would have been reversed, Im convinced. It was no coincidence that during our time of absolute dominance, we still could nt beat the Hawks and that all came down to coaching, mainly setup and strategy around the ball and contests and Hodge and Mitchell were instrumental in carrying out his instructions. His players were simply better coached in the bits that matter most.

Any club in the running would be mad not to snap Clarkson up and my bet is, unfortunately, Mitchell will be a very good coach too.

Mitchell has always been spoken about as a coach with potential. Hopefully he turns into the next Buckley and the Hawks spend quite a few years rebuilding.

Rhufus, what you should be asking, is, if C Scott, Malthouse, or any of the contempary coaches of the time were coaching Freo, & Clarkson coaching Hawthorn, would the result be reversed. I believe it would have. Especially with Scott as coach.

We had plenty of opportunities in the first half but couldn’t kick straight, including from set shots. I’m not suggesting that RoLy was a better coach than Clarkson, I just don’t think it we can ignore the players contributions to that particular loss.

WTB, do you think that the kicking woes came from the RL game plans insistence on getting all the troops to every small battle in the game? The good goalkickers never seem to be exhausted when they line up for goal in pressure finals. Look at Gunston, Bruest & co in that game, and they look composed when they line up. That's what I wonder about when I talk about a different coach with that Freo side, and Scott always comes to mind because Geelong had a similar type of make-up to Freo in that era, and they also had the most success against the Hawks.
