Weird hat design choices aside, I’m chuffed the club has tentatively re-embraced some of the original colours the last couple of years, even just for heritage rounds.
The Fremantle Football Club has been dull for a while. It has dull colours, it’s training base is dull, our footy has been dull, the last few coaches have been poor spruikers for the club (I realise this isn’t the key part of their job). There’s no reason for a club representing Fremantle to be so consistently drab. Some of these things are tough to change, but adding a bit of colour to the jumpers from time to time is about as easy as it gets.
As an aside, I had a bit of a staycation in Fremantle last week. I don’t get down there very often, and I was keen to try a bunch of new restaurants that have opened since I’ve spent time down that way. My four-year old son – who never took his Freo jumper off the whole time – asked if the Dockers trained at Fremantle Oval. I told him they didn’t (but that the Women’s team plays there). He asked why not. I didn’t have a great answer for him, and all these years later it still really sucks.
All of which is a long way of saying that Steve Harris and Steve Rosich still suck.
