Simpson has basically implied that any current player that doesn't meet his criteria is a burden to the club.

I was raised by a single mum, on welfare and went to a public school. If I was one for Simpson’s players I’d be telling him to stick it up his jumper.

On the bright side, I’ve finally figured out why I wasn’t drafted. I had put it down to a complete lack of talent, but now I can take some solace in knowing it was probably concern for off-field resourcing.

Hypen - In the context of the conversation, I don't think that is what he was intending to convey. It's been known for some time that the afl system overwhelmingly favours private school players. If you've got limited resources are you sending them on a junket to country towns or are you sending them down to the PSA for a couple of hours a week where they can watch the best players the schools can get their hands on?

That's not the argument at all. The argument is where can you source and support young talent for the smallest amount of resources available.

What you're saying is that there is no difference in circumstances between groups of footballers from different groups in society when there quite clearly is.

I'm not saying I agree with it, but it's the reality. Clearly clubs, including the Eagles, recruit the best talent they can regardless of where it's from, Simpson is just highlighting the truth that some players require more support than others and with the caps on support personnel it's getting harder to provide the level of support they would like to.

Straddo, he tried to make a point about the cap dimishing riskier players being on boarded. Where his definition of risk should lie in an individuals psychometric profile. He made it about wealth and marital status of parents. In his/their mind that kid playing for Hale and having two parents to come home to make him - good stock. We as people just can't see the world in this way if we want to be a decent society.

He wasn't lazy with his words, he inadvertently revealed his filters. And they are ghastly.
