TOPIC: Time for Young

Eventually Time for Young 2 years 8 months ago #1

Eventually
Must bring Young in to face Geebung. Bigger bodies are needed and Walker needs one more preseason to make more impact. Hughes would also be handy but maybe needs one more game at Peel. Surely Colyer has had enough chances lately it would be fair to see Valente his chance in the ones after kicking 3 goals and heaps of possessions for Peel at the weekend. Cannot afford any passengers on Thursday.

Yeah agree. Young for Walker. Not sure who you would leave out to make room for Hughes so he probably has to wait. Would be a bit wary of leaving out big strong guys though as Geelong are a very physical side. Henry has been average for a while now but there is no one knocking the door down for his spot.

Valente gave that door a bit of a knock on the weekend goodie.
I love what Henry is becoming but he looked like he needed a rest on Saturday.

Henry is intriguing. He looks like he could be a good prospect and seems to get into the right positions but hasnt quite got the speed of the game at the moment and rushes his decisions. Also seems undersized. Might need a bit more time before he is ready to go.

really looking forward to when Walker and Henry deliver on the potential and promise they have shown over the past few rounds

I wish Walker would stop trying to mark the ball with one hand...

Henry is fascinating.

I remember when Andrew Brayshaw started he would just do the basics. He would get to as many contests as he was able, and if he got the ball he would take the first and simplest option (usually a short handball to a Freo player nearby). He even got in his own head about actually kicking for goal. As time went on, you could see him get a bit more comfortable, and he’ll now take a player on, take a riskier kick, and even have a flyer at goal from 45m on the boundary from time to time. His confidence and ambition has grown as his body and skills have developed to AFL standard.

Henry looks to me like a player whose ambition and confidence are already set at 11, and he’s just not able to pull it off yet.

The temptation for a coach would be to ask Henry to concentrate on the making the simple plays first – walk before you can run etc – but I really hope our coaches resist that urge because we need a bit of x-factor in the forward line. I reckon it will click for Henry soon.

Henry is certainly the X Factor every team needs to have and although his performances have been poor on paper he has shown moments of magic which challenge the best of defenders. Against Geelong he could just be the difference on the night and at least he will be full of run and cheek!

He looks to give it off to a teammate first, three of his kicks against Hawks were trying to kick it around the corner to another player ,he could easily have had a shot on goal,he was too quick on a couple of occassions when he was in the clear and just missed a clean grab and would have been away.
He's a keeper for me
If young get's a game ,Tucker will go into the mid rotation,Valente in for Colyer.Probably wont happen though.

Walker would be unlucky to be dropped, relatively speaking he’s barely made any errors. Liam Henry a hard one, if we were no hope of finals I’d keep playing him but we need strong bodies and impact from all our small forwards in the games ahead and he’s not there yet.

Who is Ryan? Surely not reigning Doig Medalist Luke Ryan - he's as hard as they come - play him as a forward? Crazy.

Yep agree if Young AFL match fit get him in.

Also like to see JL send someone to Tom Stewart.

If check is stats if he takes ~10 marks and 20 disposals they win. Bring back the defensive forward role.

Reckon Bailey Banfield is man for the job.

I certainly must be watching the wrong game. I would bring young in for darcy tucker. I never seen a player get stripped of the ball so consistently. However, I would play him in colyers role. Leave walker in the side for now. Maybe he goes when Hughes comes back.

Unless there's an injury to a player from this weeks win , I'd leave the team unchanged , reward them for thrashing the Hawks ,
Time to build on the winning chemistry between the players and make the players that are out have to wait and earn there spots back when we lose or get injuries.

Keep Walker and Henry in the side.
