TOPIC: Lobb

They depend on what you're looking at. It's well and great to say Andy Brayshaw is a terrible ruckman and he should be dropped but that's not his role. Lobb's role is to provide a contest forward and try and win the high balls while also being a competitive ruckman who can win the ball for our mids.

His contested marking, score assists and goals kicked say he's doing the forward role as well as anyone in his position while his ruckwork suggests he rarely gets beaten when heading into the middle. If you want something else from him then that's up to you.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Who mentioned Dixon Is a really good footballer? He’s not really good. He simply impacts through Agro. Without that he’s just a run-of-the-mill middle-road tall.

Lobb any day, hands down, if the comparison is those two.

He’s not going anywhere and nor should he be. Some of yous need yer heads read.

a couple of basic rules, Raggy:

i. you can’t compare apples with oranges. no point talking about the stats of two players from different eras or who play different positions.

ii. the numbers never speak for themselves, unless it’s really basic stuff (like say, height or weight). you need context for anything slightly complicated - a mix of quantitative and qualitative.

Well Fremantle have Lobb listed as 206 cm and 106 kg and Geelong have Hawkins listed as 198 cm and and 102 kg, so apparently not only is Lobb heavier, but also considerably taller, so there is no reason why he can't do what Hawkins does in the forward line when it comes to ruckwork.
Yet at the moment for someone that is supposedly such a great relieving ruckman he's doing no ruck work at all and we're using Acres, who there is no point even putting his height and weight up, to do that role.
Today is the ideal opportunity for him as the Hawthorn backmen in Hartigan and Frost are far smaller and lighter so if we can deliver the ball well enough, hopefully he can hit the scoreboard and help us win.

I have been thinking about this a bit. I suppose if we trade him now we will get something for him and if we wait a year or 2 we wont really get anything for him. He is getting paid a fair bit so clearing that cash might allow us land a Shai Bolton.. If we traded Sonny a year ago we might have got a first round pick but if we trade him now we get some steak knifes. We traded Brad Hill after his career best year and it worked out well for us.
Its a tough one.
Be nice to see the future.
There is a few key positions targets from WA available in the draft this year.
I feel it might be better to draft 2 of them because its probably only a 50% hit rate on key targets at best.

But if you trade him ...who are you going to have in a forward line. ??

Tabs is injured far more than he should be and only getting older.

Treacy is 18 and - whilst i reckonhe's great - he's got a fair bit to prove & go to be 'dominant'

Hodor can't be everywhere, or we'll wreck him.

And the rest of the forward line are smurfs!

No way is he a trade, and we've had a damn sight worse forwards than Rory Lobb. !!

Cammac & Hogan are 2 that readily spring to mind, but you'll find no end of supporters of those 2.

As much as I hear CA's very valid and erudite points, I reckon we give Rory a break.

Big blokes dont get smaller, and Rory has value to us.

Dont throw the baby out with the bathwater!!

some good context for understanding contested marks per game would be how many contests were you in per game.

and, if you’re not in as many contests as Hawkins, is that a supply issue, or a positioning issue?

Here’s some context. Stop the stupidness. No trade. No need to win every single contest. Play good footy on the rest of the field and you have a top 5 in the comp tall marking goal kicking forward for the next 5 years.

Why are there any questions?

I thought I had made a fairly obvious understatement, and an implied observation that while a debate bubbled away he is going about the business of playing av very good game of football. too subtle perhaps....
