TOPIC: Shaun Burgoyne

There are some players from other clubs that are very difficult to dislike and, for me, Shaun Burgoyne is one of them.
This weekend he joins a very rare group of players who managed to get to 400 games at the top level, and in doing so becomes the first indigenous player to reach that milestone.
To put that into perspective, he was drafted in 2000 (his first senior game was 2002). That was the same draft that we used a later pick on Dion Woods, which seems like a lifetime ago.
Four premierships later, he’s still going and by all accounts his off field impact as a strong voice and influential role model for young indigenous kids is also noteworthy.
Congratulations on a great career!

The introduction of the medical sub has worked for him.

And he'll be 38 next year, we should put in a bid for him in a couple of years.

Saw him on AFL360 last night and he seemed like a very likeable guy with plenty of valuable insights to offer about the game and obvious footy nous and wisdom. As a player, like David Mundy, always seems to have lots of time when he has the ball. Congrats to him on a remarkable milestone.

Btw, Freo actually got a brief mention on 360, something along the lines of 'flying under the radar'. And for once Gerard Whately sounded vaguely interested.

Grard thought they would be playing at Kardinya Park, and was worried his lack of impartiality might show up.

Whately never really hated Freo, only Freo under Lyon.

Yep, Whately didn't like Lyon.

Let's hope Fisher feels the same way. Margetts and Dalgleish are lost causes.

Burgoyne seems like a good fellow, but it was his last quarter effort against Geelong in the 2013 prelim that got the Hawks into the GF. Geelong were our bunnies and we would have rolled them on the way to our first flag, and instead we had to face our bogey team, and with Buddy probably the best version of that Hawks dynasty.

I wanted to end my post by taking a half joking shot at Burgoyne, but just couldn’t do it. He just seems like too nice a guy.

From memory, Varcoe from Geelong missed a goal at the death, and I don’t know a thing about him, so he can get stuffed.

Burgoyne has been a magnificent player and always carried himself well. In my view he’s gone on one year too long, and limped to the 400.
However this could have as much to do with the decline in his team.
Good indicator that Mundy might well have another couple of years in him.
