it's interesting really. It seems as if you can never have great disposal and elite running capacity in the same body at Fremantle. Langdon E, Menegola S, Hill B. I'm not sure who the prototype elite disposal and elite running capacity flag-bearer is in the AFL, I can't think of one. Maybe Pendlebury in his prime. Takes all types in the AFL, and being held to a mythical standard is a bit unrealistic. Coaches just have to work with what they have. Particularly if you are 'effort-based'.

I always thought that the job of the coaching staff was to get the best out of their players.

If there are deficiencies in a player, the coaches are supposed to identify them and work with the player to correct them. The senior coach is ultimately responsible for making sure this happens.

Leaning back saying 'I don't train skills' and then delisting players is not really the brief. It's funny how other coaches can get far better out of the same players when the 'best coach in the league' couldn't.

It's almost like what you would expect if the coach was just phoning it in.

The Hawks and therefore Clarkson also delisted Menegola before we did, it took a spell at Subiaco before he showed potential for the cats to give him another shot at the AFL, maybe he’s just a really late bloomer or it took being delisted twice for him to realise he had to put more effort in his own development.

The current game plan makes it easier for players with average disposal as teammates focus on providing options for the ball carrier where as under Lyon, team mates were focusing on not getting scored against. Everything was harder than it needed to be under Lyon.
