I’m curious why clubs didn’t take Treacy in the national draft. Maybe Bizkit has a view, but my best guess is that at his height and physical development scouts might have thought he was much closer to a finished product than taller or more athletic forwards he was being compared to.
If that’s true, I think we need to pump the breaks a little on the Pav comparisons, just for Treacy’s sake. I think Pav, by his own admission, probably needed to work on his body and fitness a fair bit when he came to Freo. He was always going to follow the traditional arc as key forward that took a few years to develop. Just because Treacy is performing on similar terms to a young Pav, it doesn’t follow his trajectory will be the same.
All that said, I think he could be really useful as a third forward, which would be really helpful. I still feel like a forward line of Lobb, Tabs and Treacy is going to be a bit top-heavy, but so long as Lobb or Tabs, in particular, can work out among themselves when to get up ground, then we’re onto something. If we can support those three with guys like Henry, Sturt and Shultz, there’s enough talent there to be a high-scoring team.
