I think in having a go at professional umpires, we need to address the, "think of the children" argument. No kid participating in a junior sport match should be the subject of not only personal abuse but any form of crowd criticism. Period. We take that off the table.

There seems to be this weird equivocation that we can't get stuck into an umpire on 200k a year cause kids don't want to umpire at a junior level. We don't treat professional footballers like kids in this regard, why umpires?

Found this on AFL site: I then averaged it out to how many more free kicks per game do the sides get when playing at home against interstate teams. Of course they are just raw stats and there are so many other variables (like how many times does Jack Darling throw his arms in the air and get a free kick in front of goal etc). It does appear that WCE enjoy a significant advantage or whatever else you would like to call it.

Hey, at least we're not third from the bottom on this list.

The slime are way out in front though. It's not looking all that good for the local umps in WA considering the slime's ridiculous numbers of free kicks. Seriously, in raw numbers, they have received 595 free kicks compared to the next best team on 221. It's only the number of frees they give away that has held their average down.

This isn't a statistical outlier, this is pretty solid evidence that there are factors in play here that other teams don't benefit from.

There’s something wrong with those stats, in any 10 year period (with the exception of 2020) we should host 100 H&A games to interstate teams (10 per year as one of our away games is always against WC) yet in the 11 year period we only hosted 95 intestate games?
We hosted several finals between 2012 and 2015 so should be well in excess of 100 games. The other interstate teams are all over 100. Port lead the way on 122.

That's since 2010. If you look at the stats from the mid 90's it is even more so in west coasts favour. For a period there Hayden Kennedy would turn to face the crowd as he performed a magnificent holding the ball. If I recall correctly there was something like twenty percent more free kicks to west coast than the next nearest team. A large enough gap to not be a statistical anomaly. This was what led to the initial call for non West Australian umpires at Subi/optus despite it never really mattering where they came from.
