From The Outer, I umpire country footy games,( which gives me no more qualification than anyone else on this matter), and I hear what you say, and all that you intimate.
Especially the fact that 1) umpires are humans, and 2) umpires make mistakes.
I'm sure Dean Margetts - or any umpire - is a very decent human being.....and yep, like all umpires they are 'doing a job'.
Big difference here is, that, he is a professional full time umpire, and apparently, one of the best in the country, thereby allowing him to be at this country's 'elite' footy level every week.
Irrespective of all the umpire vs crowd, umpire vs club supporters sentimentality in a this - (a 'culture' that has been there for 'eons')- , there is no way of hiding the fact , that, glaring mistakes were made yesterday by Dean, and yes, the other 2.
I'm sure Dean - good fellow that he is - would sit down and tell you, that, " yes, i made some 'howlers' yesterday, and i had a bad day.
"There is no other way to account for what was seen, other than 'bias'.
The thing is, when, mistakes and bad days are becoming more prevalent - and i think they are in his case - well..., irrespective of history, experience and personality, this has to be called to account.
And I'd be interested to hear Deans explanations of some of his calls yesterday. If it doesn't involve the words 'yes, that was my mistake', well..., I'd question accountability from above , but most importantly, accountability by self.
Yes, there is a bit of Docker Supporter vitriole towards Dean. Covid has ensured we have him more often than not. But 'where there is smoke there is fire', and in Dean's case there is plenty of smoke.
It is not just "Dean Bashing". There are issues there.
