Bewley went well I thought and Walker showed a bit.
Carp game to be fair - if GC had kicked straight (and Clive knows they had their chances) they would have won.

The standard was atrocious. Play like that against a half decent team and we lose by ten goals. But, we are still missing a heap of good players and if you imagine our backline, for starters, with Hamling, Pearce, Logue, Ryan, Cox and Hughes and it is potentially the best back 6 in the league. I just think I will be dead before I see them all play together.

It always amuses me when people say if they had of kicked straight they would have won.
First we had two more shots on goal than they did.
If a team kicks a goal,the ball goes back to the centre ,as compared to when they kick a point.
So if their first shot on goal was a goal then it starts at the center,we get it out then their backs are under pressure.
If we have to kick it in from a point ,we still have to get it away from their forwards.
The whole scenario changes when you kick a goal to a point.
The shot they miised if it was a gaol then we restart from the center,they might not get a shot at goal again for a while.
So instead of starting from full back you start at the centre.new ball game.

I agree that it wasn't a great game of skill out there - we came off a six day break, half our side is stuffed on the sidelines, we plunked two debutants out there, Pearce off an 18 month absence, and Conca and Bewley added to a side resembling a colander.

Then we monstered those poor sods from Gold Toast- attacked their delivery, contested their possessions and ran over those draft fancy pants. Hodor was a gargantuan presence, Tucker took well over a dozen marks, Mikey slotted a pressure shot after the three quarter siren, That Big Cahuna kid crashed every pack and took some clutch contested marks kicking a couple of goals, Mundy was magnificent and Pearce made it though with a smile on his face. It was a beautiful sunny weekend day and the beer tasted great. We all roundly heckled Margetts and his band of dotards and never let up for the entire game - sneaking in the odd FREEEEOOOH.

We won - brilliant, I had a ball.

When your ressies can knock off any AFL (& umpires) side, it is a good win. Pearce played King on a break, (King or Treacy, who would you take?), Darcy was BOG, Henry continued to develop and Mundy put up a good case for a 4 year contract extension.

I'd like to make mention of Colyer's game yesterday. I thought he stepped up and showed something,and probably had his best game in purple.

And I thought Duman was more than useful too.

Hodor signed on a long term contract is now one of our most important things to do. The big fella is starting to dominate matches .....and it's 'just great'.!

But, the best thing I saw yesterday, was Treacy. Very soon, he's gonna bag 5, or 6. He hits it,... he clunks it, . and,... he can kick it. !!

Quite simply, its a brilliant bit of recruiting. Well done Freo!
