TOPIC: What is it?

The hardest problems to solve are the ones caused by the aggregate sum of many things. Does anyone have anything?
I have some theories that I'd like tested.

Firstly, Sam Sturt. A bit of a smokey, apparently Freo were surprised he was there at pick twenty odd. I think he may have slipped because there were some injury concerns. Do we factor durability in enough when drafting?

Second, is our injury crisis self fulfilling? This is a club that now manages the daily sound bite more than good football operations. Are we rushing them back to show we are on top of things? Do we need to give these guys the gift of time? I mean, send them away and say do nothing and manage your weight ? Play the long game.

Thirdly, I am hearing the surface at our training facility located in the place of cocks is fine. What about for recovering players who've copped injuries to the joints in their legs and feet? Is it on the cusp of being too hard?

Number four, we have some brave, tough footballers on our list and we love them for it. I wouldn't begrudge any of them not running back into the path of an opposition forward. Blight once told Hocking to be a little smarter and a little less brave. What's better, Luke Ryan effecting an amazing spoil that brakes a rib or he pulls out and plays the next six games?

Five eye - every time you kick a football marginally over a person's head you are setting them up to be injured. Seriously injured.

I think there might be a few more factors in your sum of many things, hypen.

Take the injury to Crowden as an example. The ball was high, true but he had completed the mark when he was cannoned into from behind and as a result, got an AC joint injury. The bullies player that hit him had no play on the ball and only had eyes for hitting the player.

Back in my day (a few years back I suppose) that was called charging and usually attracted a week or two in the stands. Yesterday, nada. Certain teams in this competition play to hurt not play to win and in this 'modern' era, they can get away with it. (some teams anyway)

I agree when you that kicking a ball marginally over someone's head sets them up to be injured but that shouldn't be the case. Charging through someone's back when they are in a vulnerable position and injuring them should see you of the tribunal.

I guess it's like the 'head is sacred' part of the game. Great slogan but with the massive amount of inconsistencies in repercussions, what does it actually mean?

Yeti, too many of our injuries are caused in that way. Opponents know they are less likely to cop it from the umps or tribunal for taking out Freo players.

And where is the mass hysteria about holding the ball decisions not paid to Freo last night?

So are we the only ones copping these sort of injuries or have we noticed other clubs copping them too?

I also find it interesting that we like the way Treacy attacks the ball and makes the opposition know he's about and not to get in his way but not vice versa?

Your 5th point Hypen is a particularly good one and one I commented on live at the game.
Lets say every kick you do is accurate to 40m +/- 3m. Ie you normally kick somewhere between 37m - 43 m long when you are aiming at a target 40 m away. Our blokes seem to aim at 40m and therefore half go over the leading forwards head. For me this is a cardinal sin because neither the Kahuna, Lobb nor Tabs can turn and go back on a dime.

They need to be aiming at the 37 m mark. Sure, half will now land in front of them but a good forward should be able to break even in that situation. By aiming in front of the forward instead of on their heads they have every opportunity.

Just another 1%er that we currently dont do well and there are seriously 100 of them!!
Good news is it seems JLo is at least aware of most of it, not like the previous bloke who spoke in tongues and believed the solution was more effort.

Correct, but all you have to do is put the ball out in front of them; the vicinity of where they are going to be. If there are opponents in the way, run through them and they can be the injured ones.

My favoured tactic would be to deliberately lob it on the head of an opposition player approximately 7 m in front of Treacy.

Quite a few of our injuries are self-inflicted by just being too desperate. Both Young and Chapman spring to mind.

But there is no doubt some players see an unprotected back and want to stick a knee or hip into it. Or they fall on legs while tackling.

The club seems very conservative about injury recovery now, giving most players reduced time games at Peel before they came back to the bigs.

However we have been forced to call up young guys to play at AFL level where their inexperience renders them more likely to get injured. So it is a sort of chicken and egg thing. If we had a good season for injuries we could get lots of good WAFL experience into the young guys so that they are less likely to get injured when they do play AFL.

We went hard in the third quarter last night and wrestled the game back in our favour. Then we went harder and the bus broke down. Bummer, but you can't cruise up a mountain - sometimes that's just how it goes. I personally think we were lucky that Mundy and Ryan got through the final bit of the game.

RR, Young was the result of an opponent dropping a knee into his hammy.

Lot it is bad luck, , yep , maybe a bit of it is stupidity....however, i reckon most of it is the fact that opposition bring a bit of extra physicality whenever they play The Dockers. I reckon history has shown that we 'crack like an egg", whenever a team tries to monster us.
And part of the reason is that we've never had anyone who'd retaliate with a bit of 'tit for tat'. We've had 'pests' like The Wiz, Bsllas & Crowley - even Josh Carr - ,but, we've never had hard nuts that oppositions fear.

We all get excited about the physicality Treacy brings...well, I'm -at least - excited abour it....but name another Dockers player - since 1994 - who's approached the game in the same way?

Troy Cook was tough nut, maybe you could say the same about Solomon, or Mark Johnson, but none of them were intimidatory.

We need intimidators in our team - 4 or 5 of them, who can dish out some of the brutal stuff, that 'turns the tables' on some of these oppositions...and they might start approaching us with a different attitude...

I reckon you are close to thirty years too late in this thinking.

Ryan, Fyfe, Brayshaw, Schultz, Wilson, Cox, Hughes, Tucker all as tough as they come. Your point seams to be we are getting more injuries cause we don't have a Brereton in our team. No-one has those players in the AFL anymore. Whose physicality strikes fear into opponents these days? Jack Darling, Charlie Dixon, Tim English?

I can think of Mumford, that's it.

Cletus, the problem is that teams get away with an extra bit of "physicality" when they play Freo.
