No one in their right mind would suggest Fyfe out Blakely in, but I'm sure a lot could see a place for him in place of Crowden.
Amazing what an escaped goat he has become, particularly when you've got time in a game to continually watch his or any other player's for that matter, disposal outcome for the next link in a chain.

Crowden didn't miss one target by foot last weekend.

Blakely looked poor under R.L's gameplan, because it entailed getting as many players on the footy as possible. With J.L's tactics it is about a couple of strong inside players getting inside the contest and getting the footy out to runners. If you take off your Ch7 blinkers and look at how Blakely has used the footy this year, he has given the footy by hand and foot to players who can break the lines, which is what CA is saying.

Fair enough. Wouldn't have been been through tiredness. 9 disposals? But then again he wasn't on his own among those small forwards.

I think we’ve lacked a midfielder with the willingness to be accountable this year and Blakely has this ability. I can only think that something is amiss.
I’m very much of the opinion that often players gain an overstated reputation, which repeated often enough becomes fact.
Until this year I didn’t subscribe to Fyfe’s a terrible set shot. Prior to this year he went at 59% the same as Martin.
I would’ve thought that Taberner was an unreliable set shot. Lynch has gone 10-15 from set shots this year.
Every time these players make this error it’s all that’s noticed. If you buy a red car all of a sudden you notice all the other red cars.
Crowden is a pressure forward that has laid 10 tackles and kicked two points in five games.

Absolutely mind blowing that Crowden gets a game. He is nowhere near AFL standard.

I grew to hate Lyon not for the game style itself but because he imposed it on the team, regardless of the players he had at his disposal. Arguably it suited the players he inherited but it was completely unsuitable after 2015 and he stubbornly refused to adjust. Great coaches have a philosophy but they are pragmatic enough to adjust to the playing talent available. I really hope J-Lo isn’t falling into the ‘it’s my way or the highway’ trap in just his second season.

He's not Wedge. He just needs some of his better injured players back. I'm starting to think Luke Ryan is Freo's second most important player.

Longmuir keeps making changes until he solves the problem. Lyon would try and hold the line and hope it improved. That's why we have been able to quickly stop and come back from bad starts, rather than the game being over by quarter time.

Him picking the dud bloke you don't like over the dud bloke you do like isn't being stubborn.

Okay last thing I'll say on the Blakely discussion.

I realise he is not a walk up start in the midfield, but with Brayshaw out and in these weather conditions I feel he would be a sensible inclusion.

I also realise that he did something that upset the playing group but that was two years ago and the other player involved has moved on.

I feel that he should be given games to prove himself or at least show other clubs that he could be worth picking up. We did this with Sheridan and Sutcliffe and at least got something for them trade wise. Don't want another Barlow, Collins, De Boer, Menegola scenario where we delist them and get nothing in return.

I don't believe the theory of him handballing to team mates standing still. I would question why if they are in the open are they standing still and not on the move? If they are in close then that's rubbish because at all stoppages midfielders are continually handballing in close in an effort to get someone free. Chains of handballs in close, less than a metre are the norm. In fact they all train that way, and if you didn't do it you wouldn't be following instructions.

He's a big bodied midfielder, I don't understand why he would not be playing tonight.

My guess is he will be emergency, so dont worry Hypen, you will probably see him play.

Surely picking a dud who gets the ball and takes the load off Fyfe but maybe doesn’t quite fit the purest form of the coach’s preferred game style is smarter than picking a legion of midgets who don’t kick goals or get the ball, including a nocturnal bird.
