Yes I'm disappointed and frustrated with the game today (I was there ) but I'm more angry with sooky VFL coaches - first Hardwick doesn't like Marvel and virtually implied that if they had matches there, their fans won't come and that's why attendances are down.
Then Rutten is insinuating that Serong broke the rules when dealing with Merrett - they got free kicks and how is a young player going to intimidate a 250 gamer?
They need to get real. Rant over

I'd be interested in seeing Rutten talk about the off the ball incidents used against Lobb. Hanging on to the guy to prevent him from reaching marking contests or front on bumps on Watson to prevent him from marking..

I could go on but the point remains the same, essendrug was doing a lot more of the ball than Freo and most of those acts weren't penalised.

He should STFU (whatever that means...my kids say it)

Agree, Yeti, Serong is coming in for some on the edge tactics, and he seems the sort who won't put up with it, has a bit of Hayden about him. I just hope he gets some protection.

I can see Merret copping a bit of sledging over the next few weeks.

I’m not sure how I feel about Serong playing as a tagger. I think as a young player it can be a great way to learn how the superstar midfielders play the game, but it’s asking a lot for second year player, who isn’t big, to absorb the off-the-ball stuff that comes with it.

I think Serong is probably too talented and important for us to play that role more than once or twice a season.

All this talk about big, bad Caleb bullying Merrett yet it was Darcy Tucker who copped the fine for knocking Merrett over. It would have been nice too if our captain had received a few frees for the whacks he kept getting after he disposed of the ball.

I read a fairly impartial match report elsewhere that said the umpiring favoured Freo in the first half, but that in the 2nd half every 50/50 went Essendon's way.
