TOPIC: Who's on the plane to Gold Coast

I am not getting the argument for having him in the side. He hasn't got near the footy in three games and you want them to keep playing him? When he kicks regular scores against the decent wafl teams then they should start looking at him again.

I thought JLo handled the media questions about Treacy beautifully, which was to protect the young lad from criticism for his performances by saying it wasn't really his role to kick goals. There is probably some truth to that - Tabs is clearly the focal point - but Treacy looked a bit ordinary even when the ball was near him.

He's no better or worse than Tabs was at the same age. Some players get there in the end, some don't, but I don't think he helps us much at the moment, and I'm not sure it makes that much difference to his development at the moment if he's learning how to play and building his body at Peel or in the seniors.

As for investing in key forwards, we were a bit unlucky that the year we had two top 5 picks there weren't any forwards tipped to go that high. Naughton, Fogarty and Allen went later, and all are useful, but I still think I'd take Brayshaw and Cerra ahead of them.

We invested pretty bloody heavily in a youngish key forward from Melbourne a year later and that didn't go so well.

I am not sure it is unlucky.
Good midfielders are in every draft key forwards are not.
In the particular draft you refer to the talk before that draft was Eagles needed midfielders badly. They went against that advice and took 2 key talls being brander and Oscar Allen. Just by the way sumo was telling anyone who would listen that Oscar Allen was a jet and worthy of a top 5 pick. As for naughton he was under our bloody nose and was playing well for peel at the time. Can you imagine both those players in our side now. Yes we would need midfielders but hey they come up every year.
I would give up both Brayshaw and Cerra to get Oscar Allen.
Unlucky, not sure . Just elite decision making for one side and average decision making by another AFL side.

Chappy came into the side because of injuries and was excellent from day one - he was never going to be taken out unless he was carried off in a box. Oops, a slip of the tongue (so to speak) - I don't have any inside knowledge about his state of mortality. Maybe 'ambulance' was a better term...or 'stretcher...

Either way, he was on from day one - excellent footballer.

I will add that I do get Straddo's point. More than most I've poked fun at Treacy's inability to get involved in the games when he was in the side, but I do recognise how good he was last weekend kicking at goal - and marking I'll add. As important as putting games into young players there's only so long that you can carry them - at some point you need to recognise that zero impact in the bigs is both a negative to your team and to the confidence of the player. It's quite possible that Treacy was feeling more and more worthless, the gluttony of goals at WAFL level undoubtably was better for him than having some nutter (like myself) rattling off gags about him at his expense.

Put Treacy in and give him room to lead, and he will get the footy and kick goals. We don't really have anyone else to play that role so back him in.

Wisdom in hindsight? Beside Oscar Allen
Jack Darling
Liam Ryan
Marlion Pickett
Danial Rich
Perhaps in the future - Devan Robertson? Who else?

...and each team on that list passed over Mr Multiple Doig and Brownlow Medallist Nat Fyfe. Yeah, nah...and then there's Ballantyne.

RM it's not quantity it's quality. There are three premiership players on that list.
I failed to mention Naughton who could well be a premiership player soon enough (or maybe Rich?). We also had a chance of getting one of the Kings.

So did a few teams ahead of us. I'm always sceptical about these lists, because the quid pro quo is never taken into account.

The very best will be good anywhere Abblet, Fyfe etc but some of the other good ones are that way because of who plays around them.

The rest of our backline look better when Luke is playing.

Is Liam Henry a good pick, not yet but maybe he is as good as every one says and maybe he needs Treacy playing next to him to bring out the best in both but neither is setting the world on fire in the 1's at the moment.

The could've, should've, would've on draft picks is interesting but the draft is a lottery with odds.

The draft odds are about as fair as the roulette table at the casino.
