TOPIC: Lost revenue

Do you reckon the AFL have considered some sort of General Average mechanism where all the clubs share the loss of a crowd cancellation, or would they just not give a stuff until it hits a Melbourne team?

What did they do last year when half the country had crowds of varying sizes while Melbourne fans were locked out?

The clubs weren't hosting their own games last year, the AFL were hosting them.

There is already a mechanism for the AFL to distribute league revenue, which differs from club-to-club, and seems to take into consideration factors like which teams play blockbusters, various stadium deals etc. Would it just be the case that the AFL would consider it as part of that calculation?

Yes, they do. And that is not relevant because they still earned that money by playing a game that could be televised and allowing the round to be completed. What they lost was money from tickets, food, advertising and corporate value.

I think it would be a good idea to have in place a system where, if this happens, losses are spread evenly across all teams.

On a needs basis only - there's no need to give every club $100k for instance if one televised game gets closed to the supporters on the day.

Maybe a kind of insurance scheme - ie 60% of the tv revenue gets kicked back to the two clubs to share.

What I’m getting at Shane is that out of that allocation pool they cover that loss first, then allocate the rest. So, if Freo normally gets
1/18th from that fund (it doesn’t, but go with me), and Freo lose $500k for the Len Hall game being played without fans, then they get $500k before the distribution, then the rest gets divided up as per usual.

Oz Harvest are getting donated all the unused food from the game.

Haven't those people been through enough already?
