Why don't we have or use one. It was obvious that Kelly is their most important and damaging midfielder but he virtually did as he liked. You only had to look at last year's final here when Buckley sent Greenwood to him and last week against Geelong when O'Connor kept him to about a quarter of the possessions he got today.
Blind Freddy and all that!
Someone like Blakely who has a big tank and can't get a regular game would be up for it for sure I reckon. It's not like we get any value from Crowden so there's a spot available.

Good idea. Blakely does have the ability to win his own ball and negate a player.
Unfortunately his skills let him down. Based on some of the efforts yesterday I’m guessing he has trouble tying his shoe laces.

Haven't seen it but was told that in a post game interview Kelly acknowledged that he was very pleased to have a game without being tagged as he has been the last few weeks and that the ball seemed to be coming his way.
Did anyone see it?
If so, adds to my argument. We haven't used a tagger since Banfield, pre JL. He now plays the Freo death by a thousand cuts position of defensive half forward when he can actually get a game. As if we don't already have enough options for that position.

I don't like the idea of needing a tagger in your side, I'd prefer we won the ball and we have plenty of people in the side who should be doing that. The negative mindset of a tagger is one I'm happy to avoid.

The OOFTIT's had half their midfield running riot over us yesterday, tagging Kelly would've made no difference. Gaff and Sheed were cruising around unopposed too. Our midfield as a group needed to be accountable, not one person.

GWS have a good one. They got him for nothing from somewhere.

And yeah, like Mitchell and his 537 possessions a couple weeks back, Kelly had maybe 12 or 15 meaningful ones. Wasn’t best or most influential player in the result by a fair margin.

Conca is a small defender, their role is to defend. A midfielder needs to cover the ground and be far more rounded than offering just defense. We have a lot of young blokes running through there and they need to be learning both attack and defense. They were rubbish on the weekend and need to learn a hell of a lot.

Playing a full time defensive player in the midfield is a step backwards. Win the ball and hold onto it, that's how you stop Kelly, Gaff and Sheed in the derby.

Crowley used to tag and get the ball and kick goals. I have no problem with the idea of assigning a player to make life difficult for one of the opposition.
