TOPIC: Treacy

I have noticed that Treacy is starting to get in to much better positions and fly for marks more confidently in the last couple of weeks. Unfortunately he either then drops the mark or misses the ball completely. He needs to have softer hands at the last moment but hopefully this is just a confidence thing and he will soon start clunking them. He nearly took a few big grabs yesterday. He hasn't really had enough set shots at goal to find out what his kicking is like but it only has to be half decent to be better than most in the team.
He is one of 2 or 3 being gifted games at the moment but I think he is worth persisting with for a decent stretch.

He is coming along, was being double teamed a lot yesterday and was having his run blocked a fair bit off the ball. He will learn how to shake those tagging blocks soon I would think. I did enjoy the crashing pack mark that left the PA defenders laying around like pins from a bowling ball strike. That woke a few of them up.He was getting up the ground a bit too, and had a few long penetrating kicks forward I thought!

Sunday was his best game so far. For the first time he looked like he had some potential.

And even if he isn't much good, if he keeps going for the footy like that, he will create a bit of chaos for the small forwards to play off of.

He's our Karl Langdon.

Nah. Can’t agree with the Karl Langdon comparison because, although it’s a very low threshold to measure against, I’d still bet on Treacy actually having some intelligence.

He’s 18?
Give him time - he’ll be a monster.

We need to lower our current expectations of Treacy (and similarly Henry). In a top team, or one without injuries, they would be developing in the 2nds (at least that’s the theory but I’m not so sure with Peel). They’ve been pushed into the firsts ahead of time. There’s plenty of upside, we just need to be patient.

I love seeing him getting a game. If he was in a better team he may be playing in the WAFL, or he may be taking the third best defender playing with two other forwards that have played 200 games together like Oscar Allen at the Eagles.
I hope we get Taberner back because this is good for both players.

He would be the third forward, and would have more of a run at the footy, giving us the chance to see how good his kicking is. As things stand, he is still good value to the team because he offers a target, contests and provides opportunities for our crumbers. They need to convert them.

Treacy did a good job of bringing the ball to ground and creating opportunities for others. Despite being outnumbered in the air on several occassions, he managed to spoil and not let his opponents run off with the ball. I was impressed with that effort and desperation.

Over time he'll grow, build and start holding more contested marks which will result in plenty of goals. One thing that seems hard to teach forwards is that knowledge of when to attack and when to defend and hold the ball up. The Kohuna seems to have this natural footy knowledge and makes good decisions. It's a great platform to work from.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Agreed. He knows his role, and brings a contest. Upside is huge. Obviously far better than WAFL quality (and confirmed by the King Kepler last week), only better for these runs in the bigs. 18 years old, 19 in August. Rookie drafted last year for crying out loud. In all honesty may not have been on an AFL list if we didn't pull the trigger. And turns out to be a ready-made replacement for Dardy, sadly- and after we waved Jess down the road. We have seen so many listed talls make far less impact over their terms. Great get whomever flagged it.

It's fair, but young inexperienced tall forwards hardest gig in the book at AFL level, and particularly dependent on who you are playing for. We can carry him a bit more

You sure? With our silver platter delivery into the forward 50? Our seamless interaction between the midfield and the forwards?

Nah, the blokes got it easy.

<sarc ... of course>
