Hannath had the biggest butt ever known in the AwFL/VFL - not sure of our present rucks, but they certainly don't have one that occupies the whole centre circle.

Morgan is spot on here, Meek did some good things on the weekend and contributed to the win but that was about as easy a game as he's going to have. Flynn in his second game with no real back up ruckman is a pretty simple prospect and Meek only managed 17 hit outs (Darcy had 10 including a few spectacular taps like the one to Switta) with the 2 marks. Darcy had 6 more touches despite being stationed forward for most of the game and provided a great target and contest to get the ball to ground up forward, bringing our smalls into the game.

I hope Meek continues to improve and his follow up work after ruck knocks was really good but if Lobb is fit, we won't be seeing Meek in the 22.

In 2013 Hannath played 13 games in our most successful team ever, usually out of position as a forward/back-up ruckman. He tried hard, kicked 7 goals in 12 games and wasn’t embarrassed. He didn't really get much more of a look - Griffin might have been the best back-up ruckman in the league and Clark at that stage looked a player - but Freo still kept Hannath on the list for a few years and played him here and there which showed they at least rated him a bit.

Meek is a very similar player, but this is far from our best team ever and the depth at ruck is pretty skinny.

No kicks or marks, 6 handpasses, 13 hit outs and a tackle don't look great from Rd 1. Meek's performance was probably better than the stat sheet but I wouldn't say he played well against Gawn.

Meeks sole mission in round 1 was to stop Gawn dominating the game, its only my opinion but I thought he accomplished that, last week he was the better of the two second gamers, so another box ticked.
He’s not as polished as Darcy, but has played a vital role in filling the void while Lobb is out. Given another month I think the coaches will not feel the need to rush Lobb back and let him build to full fitness before replacing Meek, which can only be a good thing for everyone concerned.

Meek is nothing like Hannath, who had no second effort and was not mobile. Given Lobb and Darcy rarely play together (one or both are usually hurt), i think you'll find Meek will play many a game for us.

On another positive note, Morgan has found another contrarian stump speech to fall back on - Meek, like Zac Dawson he's just not as good!
