Fair enough. Maybe it becomes a bit horses-for-courses, but let’s say we’re playing GWS in round two, I’m not sure who in the backline is going to defend Toby Greene if Conca isn’t in the team (maybe Hughes?). I take your point about ball users, and Conca can be a bit rough on that score, but you can’t cleanly move the ball out of defence if you don’t stop it going through the big sticks first.
On Wilson, I thought he was one of the biggest losers of the change to Freo’s ball movement from defence last year. He’s at his best when he can take the ball, run and let it rip to a moving target, and he’s not particularly well served by being asked to slow it down and loop it up the line to a contest. Hopefully a combination of JLo loosening the reigns a little and full fitness means he’ll be back to his best this season.
The good news is JLo has plenty of options down there.
