Dixon will get off. He'll plead, 'incorporating the camera positioning into my celebrations...'

Given that most players post goal celebration consists of sprinting to the interchange bench, the camera person better get ready to film while in a flat out chase! I’m visualising the scene with some Benny Hill background music.

The AFL Iis an entertainment industry. Anyone who says otherwise is dreaming. Close shots make good drama. That said: better online availability, market the online space instead of farming to foxtel, should be far ahead in the thinking than dinking around with camera operators on the field.
And what joke. Keeping the game “fast paced” while the umpire waits for coverage before bouncing was already hypocritical before this nonsense.

As you say Sox, the AFL is an entertainment industry. The problem being that I don't find most of what they do to be entertaining. Sometimes on a Saturday I tune into NTV and watch the local rugby union - the sort of game you could go down the park and watch. And it is a genuine competition and entertaining. Or the Darwin footy where St Mary's always seem to come out on top, and that is entertaining. It is amazing how these things can be entertaining without all the razzamatazz.
The current AFL "gameday" experience is like a nightclub. They think that any break in the noise and we might all realise that we are bored and go home. But the best entertainment is the footy. And the best noise is the crowd noise. Yes, if I'm watching on TV I want an HD picture. And at the game I want replays on the big screen. If we want to model our game on anything, choose the EPL, not the superbowl.

RogerR: I agree but that probably means that you are in the age demographic that the broadcasters are not interested in. They are focussed on excitable viewers with short attention spans and disposable income.

The advertising they sell on football game broadcasts would suggest otherwise.

As would the fact that the broadcaster who wants to do this, delivers their product via a satellite dish on top of a house.

I think they should only be allowed to go as far as having a couple of those Foxy Rover's zipping along the boundary line as they did in the Big Bash. They shouldn't be allowed to cross the white line.

I guess this means that champion data will now have stats for camera interactions / meters covered to get to the camera / top speeds out running cameras / number of photo camera bombs by a defender blocking a celebration........

Again, it's no surprise that the AFL is following the showiest showcase of sport, the NFL.

Completely oblivious to the fact that NFL was always made for TV broadcasting and advertising - with long breaks of nothing, interrupted by football. It's hours of boredom they have to fill with stuff.
