Not sure why we signing players up for 5 years when there is so much uncertainty about what the future salary cap will be, I’d hate to paint ourselves into a corner and end up Collingwood this year.

Edit: don’t get me wrong, love what Andy brings to the club, just in the current climate, 2 years on top of his current 1 year seems a safer position for any club.

Shirley all clubs (perhaps with the exception of the numeracy challenged lot at Collingwood) will be factoring in the uncertainty of future changes to the salary cap. It isn’t that difficult, e.g. “agreed remuneration is based on current salary caps. Should the cap be reduced by the AFL, remuneration will be adjusted on a pro rata basis” or something similar.

I thought at the time (and I don’t think I was alone) that Brayshaw might have been a bit of a reach at pick 2 of his draft, with character and the prospects of retention being the decisive factors. There might be slightly more talented players taken after him in the draft, but I’m really happy that he’ll be playing for us for a long time.

But in the name of Purple Jesus can he spend some time having shots at goal this summer? 0 goals from 17 games last season for a bloke that played exclusively in the midfield is almost unfathomable. If Brayshaw, Cerra and Serong are going to form the core of our first premiership midfield, they’ll need to do a bit better than their combined 4 goals last season.
