Announcing stepping down a year out seems a bit melodramatic, but I guess he's keen to lock in a full year of farewell President's lunches.

Against my expectation, he is probably going at roughly the right time (likely a touch late). He did lots of good things, plenty of awful things, and though i reckon both Collingwood and the AFL will be better for his departure, over the journey he was probably good for his club.

I enjoyed him calling the footy and never found him particularly biased. He got excited, but never sank to Mcavaney level of drama and hyperbole during games.

Eddie has a real genuine passion for Collingwood and AFL footy he has been good for the club and good for the game. I think he is leaving at the right time and after 23 years deserves a farewell tour.
I just wish he would put his brain in gear before he opens his mouth at times.

Another case of an overstayer. He did what was needed for the club when he arrived and will be recognised accordingly but then decided that the job was his entitlement. That sense of entitlement has now become a club trait. Their handling of the racist slur investigation along with their treatment of Treloar are evidence of a club in denial. Along with several cases of foot in mouth by Eddie, the latest salary cap mess at the club shows that a new broom is needed. Eddie should have left a few years ago and his positive legacy would have become a part of Collingwood’s history, instead he thought he could do no wrong and will now leave behind a tainted story.

The narrative is that no one is able to chair football club meetings other than Eddie.

He's done a good enough job but plenty of other people could have also done a good job. He's not unique on this planet, as the only person who could sit as president of a domestic sporting team.

Staying on for a goodbye tour is self indulgent, not the club first mindset a president should have.

I don’t mind the farewell tour. Eddy has said when he is going, giving the board 12 months to get their ducks in a row for succession.

How far in advance should he of announced his departure, 1 month, 2 months or more?
