Yeah, the freedom of choice comes in nominating for the draft. Players aren't required to and if they do, they are confirming they're open to moving across the country.

The AFL has introduced that many measures to allow more open and easy methods for players to get to their club of choice, they're on the verge of compromising their 'equity' system. You can look at Hawthorn or Geelong and the plethora of quality players near their prime they were able to pick up despite having little trade capital due to finishing near or on top of the ladder.

This is a non issue for mine and Perkins should have been disciplined for those comments. You can't nominate for the draft and declare you will only go to one place, it's a national competition. He's well compensated and looked after for any move he has to make and should be thankful for the opportunity. His comments reflected very poorly on him.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

For sure - what if you wanted to stay at home, somewhere like Lake Grace, but your only choice was nominate for the national competition draft or keep playing kick-to-kick with three ex-OOFTIT brothers across the street? Hard choice to make at 18, but ya gotta be strong in this world.

I think his comments reflect very poorly on the management group representing him.

I hear what you are saying Morgan but Im not suggesting that my employer can force me to work interstate. What I am saying is that if I sign up to an employer who tells me prior to being employed that I might have to work interstate I can hardly complain when that happens after I agree to work with them. I have choice before I take up the job. Anyone interested in playing AFL knows from the time they decide to pursue that career that the conditions of employment dictate that they can end up having to play at any one of 18 clubs. If they dont like that they should consider another option.
That's the real world - I didnt want to end up in Karatha so I chose a different career that meant I could live were I wanted to live.

What about Gil ul Jung saying to Perkins "OK, you can reject all those out of state clubs and their offers, but 100% of your first contract goes to a charity chosen by the clubs you rejected."

What about just applying the rules equally across the competition.

It's a radical concept but it just might work

Just a bit too radical for the AwFL. Yeti.

I can't see any broadcaster that will accept showing the next draft. Maybe SBS as an avant-garde thing, but they might be better off with Roger's lawn.

It should be boring. Its reading out names.

Like the Brownlow, there's only so much jazzing up you can do to attract viewers who aren't interested in names being called out.

I’m pretty sure Matt Deboer did the same thing.. I actually reckon it impacts on an individuals standing in the game and earning capacity to a certain extent
