Chapman's kicking is fine, he plays as the rebounding defender and is often the go to man out of defence. He has a long and penetrating kick that finds targets.

I'm not gonna lie, he was probably my least favoured option with our first pick given our needs but he seems like a great kid. Picking key defenders early is a rough business though, surely we must have plans for him to play forward?
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Picking Chapman means Cox can go forward without worrying about our backline. Potentially Young could move up to a wing after a preseason or two.

What's Logue gonna do then?

We must be backing one of Pearce or Hamling to never play again after injury.

Old man Hamling is 28 in April, it’s a succession plan.
Logue plays through the middle.

I don't think Logue was ever really intended to be a permanent shift to the back line and now that we have more cover in defense he could be the one to go forward. I've always seen him as following a similar career path to Pav and after showing some promise in defense he could also be valuable as a big bodied midfielder.

Looks like Bell already thinks Chapman will play further up the ground, possibly even as a forward:
“He’s a quick intercept marker and with that athletic profile, even through he’s played a lot of footy in defence, there’d be no reason why he couldn’t play wing, possibly forward and, long-term, maybe even as an inside mid.“

.... well, there is one good reason. His kicking efficiency is well below AFL standard. That will need to be fixed ASAP.

Yep...it'd be no good having players that have poor kicking efficiency!!

. No place for that kind at our club.....

I continually find it amazing how much weight is put on a 17/18 yr old kid to have 'exceptionally honed skills' at that age.

Surely they are allowed to have time to develop their skills in an environment that should 'focus upon nothing but their skills', such as an AFL club??

Welcome Heath, and congratulations for being our 1st & highly valued pick of the 2020 draft.!

Disappointed Cox didn’t slide to us but very very happy with this pick.

Had a lot of draft radio playing over last week and amongst the waffle learnt Chapman was number 1 for intercept possessions, #1 for intercept marks (11 more than next blocks), and #1 for score involvements for a defender. Plus ~23 touches per game.

Feel like heard a lot on here over the years we should draft WA kids who are footballers (first) before athletes. Seems like he is one.

And he and ODriscoll went 1st and 2nd in 2km time trial at WA combine.

My first thought on watching the slight unorthodox kick and panther-esque movement was this could have been Michael Johnson's junior highlights video.

There's some spark of creativity there that I hope the systematic grind mill that is the AFL will not suffocate out of him.

Take care of your back, boy, and you'll be a ripper.

An intercept marking colossus in our forward line could be pretty handy, given the number of times we kick to the opposition.
