The narrative coming out of Collingwood is both confused and disrespectful to its player and members.
Firstly; a casual listener would be excused for thinking that Trelor had signed up for a multi year $900k p.a. contract. This is misleading as the contract was renegotiated from a lower average p.a. at the request of Collingwood, which resulted in a heavily backended deal. It is reasonable to expect that since Trelor has done the right thing by the club he should receive the full value of the new contract.
Secondly to suggest, as the list manager did yesterday, that this player dump is a eliberate strategy to improve the club's draft hand is insulting to members. To then also suggest that the club believed that Trelor's partner's decision to work in another state fpor a few months would stop him from performing is insulting to Trelor and his partner.
There appear to be only two realistic reasons for their situation.
(i) maths isn't their strong suit and they cant add up contract numbers, in which case someone needs to take responsibility and move on.
(ii) they are loading up for a very big fish in next year's trade period, in which case tell your members that you have a plan without providing details of names.
Eddie and his crew have handled this situation very poorly.
