The fact that he had not reflected on his comments, admitted his mistake or changed his views is clear form his apology ‘for any offence that his comments may have caused’. This is an often used workaround by nobs who are too proud to admit they are wrong and instead make it a victims issue because the victim felt offended.
True remorse would have involved some level of admission that his views are wrong not that they caused offence.
