I see Conca as way better Duman. He is our only genuine small lockdown defender. He has done amazing jobs on Paps, Dusty, Eddie Betts & Co. I reckon he will poll well in the Doig. I reckon Stephen Hill and Duman will make way. Hughes has had a great year. Hayden Young has to come back into the backline unless he can play wing or something. Duman actually might get tried as a wingman too. Conca is not the best kick but still brings a fair bit to the table.

Well Watson has just been re-signed so we have too many backmen already. And would we not take Western before Walker?

"Maybe Corporal Agarn can help coz he aint as dumb as everyone thinks he is :)"

Thanks for your support Leed, but when it comes to maths, numbers, figures, etc, I think I might be. I mean, in all that time I still couldn't get Dobbs to play that bloody bugle properly.

Yes we do have to many back man. It might come down to who gets paid the most. Hamling has three years left on his contract on good coin so if he is cooked we might have to come to an agreement.

It depends more on where other sides rate them Corporal. We will match someone else's bid and most seem to have Walker ahead of Western. Walker's scope for improvement is very, very high and while I really like Western, his size restricts him a bit.

Either way they've both shown plenty this season and are well worth drafting, where will depend on a bid.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

I'd be interested Bizkit, to have your opinion on the Tigers big men in the colts. I've been a bit of a fan of Kalin Lane during the season as a possible late draft pick ruck option but after watching the GF on Sunday live I'm now thinkning their other big fella Gowdie might be worth a shot given his size and the fact he's quite handy as a tall forward option. His 2 goals showed a bit of upside and at 198cm and 106kg he could develop into a very interesting future prospect under an AFL club's guidance.
Overall I thought there were a few Tigers who may have dented their draft chances with their lacklustre efforts Joel Western, Jack Avery, Kalin Lane and Gowdie I thought were quite good but Logan Young I thought was a tad disappointing while young Zac Mainwaring's stocks may have drifted as he seemed totally overawed by the occasion. On the Subi side of things I thought the standout was Lachlan Vanirsan and I was less impressed, being a Tigers fan, by defender Lachlan Henderson who stuffed up a lot of Claremont's forward sorties and even went forward to score a goal.

C'mon, Gumnut.

No more Lachies, ok?

We give 'em a start, train 'em up and then deport them to Queensland. Let the banana benders get their own players.

Just stop!

Sorry Yeti, just telling it like I saw it. I'm a Tigers fan and those 2 guys just kept popping up at the wrong time for us and as there were probably heaps of AFL recruiters present I would imagine they impressed a few of them. The Claremont guys I liked were a Joel a Jack, a Kieran and a Kalin so I'm not sure how they would fit in the Purple but we already have Lachie Schulz so surely one more Lachie to keep him company wouldn't hurt.

We only have “too many back men” if everyone if fit and available to play for 22 rounds (or more if we can make finals). That NEVER happens in any club. We need quality extras to fill in when needed. To be a successful club you need 30+ players who can match it at the top level. We shouldn’t be worried about having good players running around in the seconds - that’s the best problem we could possibly have.

The ruck is something difficult to judge at a young age. There's generally so much development left in these big kids that predicting how they grow into their body and find their way in the game is very hard. The covid shutdown hurts them the most for mine as they don't get a chance to ruck against other quality young talls from interstate which is where they're really tested.

Lane for example had a pretty reasonable height advantage on the weekend and dominated the hit outs but that's been the case for a lot of the colts season. If he'd been tested against a few more blokes his size it would have been great to see how he managed that contest. I also like to see young ruckman get to a lot of contests and provide an aerial threat. Lane does this well against those smaller opponents but I'd love to see him against someone bigger and how he handles that.

It's tough to rate him without those insights we'd probably get in a regular year. The bonus for his draft chances is there's few other ruckman around who've shown much of anything except Tilthorpe (who rucked in the league against mature opponents) who'll go in the first 5/6 picks so Lane's a decent chance to be drafted. It'd have to be a later pick for mine as there's just too many question marks and you couldn't in good conscious burn a higher pick on him if he didn't progress.

So what do you think about the other big fella from Claremont Gowdie who I thought got to a few contests and has a pretty good goalkicking option going forward/ He's 198cm and at 106kg could develop under an AFL club's influence. Sunday was the first I've seen of him and I thought he could be a useful late pick.
Interesting to note that Joel Western has dropped off Cal Twomey's radar along with Brandon Walker not in his best 25. I like the look of Heath Chapman though but he's a defender so would contribute to our glut of defenders unless he can go forward.
