The eligibility rules for Rising Star confuse me (as do many other things nowadays) but I thought as long as you had played less then 10 AFL games at the start of the year you were eligible that year. If that's right, he could win it next year.

No, Rowell and all the others nominated but who played less than 10 games are still eligible. I can't remember his name but there was a guy who was nominated a couple of years ago then nominated again because in between got injured and still hadn't played 10 games so was still eligible.
Just found the list. Some interesting inclusions- Duncan Kellaway(1993, 1994), our own Craig Callaghan(1995&1996), Michael Braun(1997&1998), Luke Power(1998&1999), Nathan Jones(2006&2007), Mark Lecras(2006&2007), Michael Hurley(2009&2010), Jordon Gysberts(2010&2011), Sam Blease(2011&2012), Orazio Fantasia(2015&2016) and Alex Witherden(2017&2018) You can only be nominated once in a season.
Haydn Young, Liam Henry and Matt Rowell are all still eligible next season.

I was hyper excited by seeing Liam Ryan this year I really did think he would be one to step straight into this level and be right at home. I thought his natural swagger and confidence with natural ability would’ve transferred to immediate top level performance.
This hasn’t been the case, and if I didn’t know anything about him, his performances this year would’ve had me concerned. I haven’t really seen anything in the games he’s played this year that shout star of the future.
Having said all that, I’m still hyper excited by him for next year and 100% confident he will be a star.

I can’t say I’ve heard too many getting stuck into Liam, but plenty have said young Frederick doesn’t have what it takes. I reckon he has more than a few tricks up his sleeve, and will prove a lot of people wrong.
