Good clear answer.

To be fair Shane, it is easy to see anyone with a different point of view as "having an agenda". As far as Longmuir is concerned, he's still in the honeymoon period for me. I like almost everything he's done. Possible exceptions included letting McCarthy go - but even on that I'll concede that he is probably right...

It is easy but I'm not doing that.

This is nothing to do with Justin Longmuir's performance. It's about the concentrated trolling of Jesse Hogan by people afforded access to the coach and players.

The media treatment of Hogan is just disgraceful. Why should a coach have to do anything other than say he's playing good football and has a contract for next year?

Gaff and McGovern we're always going to stay, that was the narrative from the West Coast media - when they were out of contract a couple of years back. Hogan has a contract and he's going. It's appalling, I don't know how these kids cope.

I think Longmuir has coached Hogan brilliantly and its no coincidence he's back playing a role that suits him and he's in a good head space.

We've got a great coach.

I don't disagree on that. The media is amoral. Just need stories.

Fully agree with everything you said, hypen but I'll add for the benefit of those who are still pining for the old days that JLo doesn't have to be perfect. He just has to be better than the last bloke.

Looking at the renewed spirit in the team, the development of the younger players and we have now a much improved defence even with two of our best defenders out, and improving midfield that is being maintained by a couple of old stagers and a bunch of guys that are getting up towards the 50 game mark, with more improvement possible.

Yeah, JLo is a definite upgrade on a bloke that just didn't seem to care, was out of date and utterly inflexible.

The constant sniping at Hogan is underhanded and is only occurring because he is seen as a weak link. The Nose should be grateful that JLo answered the question instead of telling him to 'get .......' as he deserved.

We do have a great coach

In fairness to The Schnoz it was Barra that asked the question in that clip linked above.

Basil can have a different point of view, but when he's asked the same question over and over again after it's been answered, he's baiting the interviewer and trying to create a story. Whether that story is getting a rise out of the coach on TV, or raising doubt about Hogan, where there isn't any.

That's an agenda. Even seen him do it to Simpson?

Exactly.

Some years ago Freo made the decision to be less open with the media and they've hated it, presumably as it made their jobs harder.

So this is what we see now. The same question asked time and time again, should JLo waiver in his answers, "Mixed Messages Over Hogan's Future". If Hogan has some form of reaction, there's a different story.

In the meantime many punters are all "There's something up at Freo with Hogan and the club is in denial about it ... but obviously the media have the inside word".

There's a huge difference between reporting the news and trying to manufacture some.

One company in this state is being particularly parasitical in their approach and inconsistent with their targets and the best way to deal with that is ignore them into irrelevance. Note this week's fluff pieces about players having to do their own laundry whilst in the hub ... heavens above ...

Don't engage, lower the ratings and circulation, diminish their revenue, limit their influence.

Unfortunately, manufactured news, gossip, rumour and lies are the stock in trade of your sports hack. It seems to be a media regulation-free zone. In any other profession Hackdorn would have been sacked for being a habitual liar.

It's made worse by our 1 media-owned town, owning the biggest chunk of access to teams and players.

I rate Hogan and I rate Longmuir’s performance so far.
It was so good to see Hogan kick 4 on the weekend but let’s keep it in perspective he had 6 touches.
I wish the media would leave it alone. I would like to see Hogan given time to settle in the team and be able to enjoy playing football. If this happens his performance will take care of itself.
I don’t have any issue at all with how Longmuir managed him back into the team. He came off injury with a history of injury with the team playing well with very wet games forecast. I can’t see, that those conditions would’ve been conducive to him having stand out games. I think it was smart to bring him back in with conditions giving him half a chance. Imagine the noise if he came back in a played a couple of shockers.
I don’t know but did anybody else notice how much more effective Lobb looked in the dry. He was coming under pressure from some corners before that.

6 touches, 4 goals - 2 goals every 3 times he touches the ball. Wow, that's what they call ballistic statistics.

Yeah, naaah, RM.

Anyone who can instill so much belief and enthusiasm in a playing group that for the last few years looked pretty flat is doing extremely well. The development of the youngsters is light years ahead of what we saw under the last bloke.

Freo are now enjoyable to watch and seemingly improving with every outing. That's the high bar.

Better than the last bloke...yeah, that's a low bar all right.
