As was his last mark, when the ball came in scrappy and low and he had the instinct and first step to get in front.

Tabs best mark came from Hogan linking through the middle and kicking it long. That’s the sort of play that’s really hard for other teams to match up on.

But we need to get Hogan some easier goals.

I thought JLo handled himself well On the Couch tonight after the game. Quizzed by one of the couchettes about the possibility of Jesse's future he was quick to complement Jesse with all the good work he's been doing and the positive stuff off field and that he saw Jesse as being a long term fixture at the club in future years.

I’m glad to see him in the team and want him to return to the player he was at Melbourne and on from there.
Last nights conditions were atrocious for a bigger forward.
I would say Taberner’s game seems to have been impacted since he’s made his way back. I hope they can work it out.
I’ve been disappointed in his inside fifty work and apparent lack of hunger for goals.

Thought Hogan was good last night. I've mentioned it before in another post on this board, his field kicking, vision and use of the ball is exceptional (much like Dardy Mcrafty - RIP) and his marking and leading is almost as exceptional. If he was a few cm taller he would be the prototype key forward. I think his best position is as a leading foward up the ground working in conjunction with Taberner as the linking player between halfback and the forward 50.

Last night he showed clean skills on a few occasions with clean once touch hands and good use of the ball to players in better position than himself.

An interesting thing I noticed and maybe the camera didn't show it - After the terrific smother in the forward pocket only two blokes got around him (fredrick and maybe serong from memory - both younger members of the team) and after clearing a path for Mikey to kick the goal by working over Max Gawn through pressure didn't see anyone run to him to get around him. Now maybe they did and it wasn't shown on the broadcast but I find it weird that no one wanted to acknowledge his hard work. Is he on the 'outer' with the playing group ???

Edit: Further to my last point above about Hogan being on the outer, in the game last week a few times Hogan appeared to be in a good position in the F50 with a smaller opponent on him and we ignored passing the footy to him. Maybe I'm looking for something that's not there but seems strange to not try and give the ball to one of your best (and highest paid) players

I noticed that too PD.

We burned Hogan repeatedly on leads last year. I assumed it had been so long since a key forward had run at them the players didn’t recognise him in their field of view. Jesse let them have it a few times.

People will say his body language is rubbish, and at times it doesn’t look great, but next time you’re at a game keep an eye on him when someone else on the team kicks a goal. He celebrates as hard as anyone and seems genuinely happy when the team is winning, which is bloody great body language if you ask me.

Media types and fans bemoan the lack of ‘characters’ in the game, then as soon as a player shows any hint of not being a robot they highlight it, dissect it on video and question the character of the player. It’s garbage.

I think when he’s on the field he just cares a lot and it’s nice to see.

Slightly off topic, but my favourite moment from this season (and my favourite Matt Taberner moment ever) was when Taberner untucked Matt Rowell’s shorts.
