East Fremantle also had a couple of wins today at Shark Park - the women’s Reserves team goes into the Grand Final in two weeks time, and the women’s League team (premiers for the last two years) goes into a Preliminary Final against Peel next weekend.
Unfortunately the “Youthies” (under 18’s) lost their semi-Final against the Tigers.
The fact that East Fremantle can put teams into finals in all three divisions speaks volumes about the clubs support of women’s football. Seeing the number of young girls, both in the stands, and on the ground who love this sport is truly inspiring. I always wanted to play football and played ruck for an exhibition game in high school but that’s as far as it went - there simply wasn’t the opportunity to play back then. I do my bit now through my business by sponsoring one of the East Fremantle players (who also just happens to play for the AFLW Dockers team as well).
What a shame the WA media barely acknowledge women’s football. I search in vain every Monday in the Worst for ANYTHING on the women’s games over the weekend - results, match reports, future fixtures - nada. It’s like it’s invisible. Lift your game WA media! And Go the Mighty Sharks!
