Blakely hasn't been right for 2 weeks i reckon, Fyfe is struggling with what ever it is (shoulder?), and Serong - though valiant- deserves a rest if all others 1st year players need a spell.

And Lobb is far from 'right'.

Today we really missed the big fellas down back
Our intense pressure of the past weeks went missing for most of the game
I don’t think the boys were ready for the first quarter scrap and GWS kicked goals with ease
The umpires also made sure the game was beyond us by half time

Concerns! Our forward line again. Hogan next week surely and McCarthy too.....oh wait.

There seems to be absolutely no system coming into our forward line. Kick in hope with Tabener really being the one and only option. It showed again that we can't afford to play two similar types in Schultz and Crowden when neither of them look like kicking goals.
Walters hasn't kicked a goal in six weeks.
Fyfe is not a forward and is spending too much time wasted up there when we getting smashed in the centre and clearances.
We have no crumbers and the ball is run out of the forward line way too easily.
Besides that, who would have thought that Tabener would be the only player to have kicked at least one goal in every game this year. A lone hand.

I think the coach stuck with the winning team combination one week too long, understandable but showed out today against a very talented and experienced outfit. Liam Henry needs another pre-season under his belt, Stephen Hill just doesnt have any spark, Connor Blakely isnt up to it and Rory Lobb definitely needs to be dropped.
Time for Hogan, Valente, Acres, Tobe Watson and Frederick to come back in. Serong needs a weeks rest also so maybe a chance for Colyer or Matera or North?

Liam crumbed and kicked that 1 time. Looked the part. Just shove him down there and let him sort out that craft. We need a genuine crumber. Am not sure he is one(?), (will eventually be a midfielder /half forward type) but at the moment, he's the best option we've got.

I like both Crowden & Schulz...they at least 'put in'. But, they aren't crumbing forwards, and are both defensive high pressure forwards. Don't know it both of them can play that role.

We need the 'x factor' that someone like Freddy and Liam bring.

But most of all we need Rory to get some form. Perhaps his most ineffectual game for us today.

And a Mikey focussed on goal scoring would help as well.

With a big game against Richmond on Wednesday night I'm sure there will definitely be at least 4 or 5 changes so a great chance to see what some of our lesser known squad can offer up. Now we can forget about finals and start checking out our list for next year.

At least JL thinks the forward line is balanced. Averaging under 50 points a game is a pretty big concern for me.

Interestingly Tabs has kicked 24.4% of Freos score, for comparison, Hawkins has kicked 22.4% of the cats score. It feels like he could be doing more but in reality the rest of the team is going to have to get their act together. There's a few passengers at the moment.

Mundy still a class above at 35, amazing role model for the young guns coming through, and makes it worth watching the game.

Hill certainly cost us an opportunity to be much closer with 2 smothered kicks. Not quite sure where he is at but will be safe for now but with Haydn and logue coming back he may struggle to hold his place next year.
Blakely is blakely his disposale is sub standard and has been from the moment he walked thru the door.

But more concerning is the middle of the ground stoppages. Hodor is abysmal in the middle and more competitive around the ground. But seriously his work around the ground is just not enough.

Under Ross we seemed to go for these lumberjack ruckman as opposed to the rest of the league going for more mobile athletic jumping ruck.

While the scoreboard flattered us, it also is not as bad. Tidy up centre clearance and the game would of been much more competitive, but we still would of lost. The road ahead is going to be long . There is a genuine lack of pacy talent in the team that will take some time to fix and that is if we get is everything right . It took us 8 years to get here and it may take that long again to be a genuine top 2 team.

I think when you add Hogan, Pearce, Logue, Young, Tucker and Sturt to this team it would look pretty good! We have now got some great depth and Frederick, Henry, Cerra and Serong give us plenty of pace around the ball as I see it so I think we just need to bide our time. Another top 10 draft pick or 2 later this year will be handy also.
