TOPIC: The New Tarrant

Hogan is apparently going to feature in the backline. JL is saying it is likely a short term fix but with Fyfe being used forward and Taberner finding some form perhaps it could be a longer term move.

Thoughts?

JLo also indicated that Walters comes in for Colyer (hamstring). Who does Hogan replace in the 22 - not necessarily in the backline?
Freo becoming a team of utilities - Fyfe, Walters, Cox, Aish, Lobb, now Hogan. That's not a bad thing.

Gee he'd have to be pretty unlucky after cutting McEvoy out of the game last night. Lobby has to get that goalkicking style sorted out because there was a couple of times where his inability to convert was almost tuned into a 2 goal turnaround as the Hawks rushed the ball back up to their forward line. Fortunately our defense held firm though on each occasion. A better team may well have punished us on the rebound.

I hope this is just a short term fix. Yep...we need backup if Cox goes down ...but I hope this isn't giving up on our million $ / yr forward.

Having dais that...if he can show the disicpline to stick on a bloke ...well...it might just work. Saunters around a bit when he's in the forward line...not sure how that'll go in the backline...?
The starting point would be to see if he can 'shut down'a bloke ' rather than run off, or, loose man in defence roles....

Taz was able to adapt.....so there's a precedent I guess.....

Frederick out, Hogan in.
Don’t really know what position he was playing in last night...

Hoges could be good support for Luke Ryan in the backline, who’s been an absolute star over the past few weeks.

I think the backline is doing fine - leave it as it is. Hoges kicks goals, that's what he does.

Well on 7 news ,in JL's regular session with Basil,he was asked whether Hogan will play
in the backline.
Jl said he was being upskilled? to play in the backline as we needed to be taller.
But it will come down to selection night.
So non-committal really.
He was very happy with how they played,a bit overusing handball at times, but will sort that out.
Lobb needs to be practicing more his runup,to get the confidence in a game ,as at training he does not stutter in his run up.

Longmuir is proving adept at playing horses for courses, so don't be surprised to see Hogan pop up in the backline in the future, yes Biz, I know he was recruited as a forward, but so was Tarrant.

And JLo also mentioned in that piece with Basil that long term Jessie's future is in the forward line so it would only be temporary while we are short in defense. The other thing is that once he's in the 22, if things aren't going great in attack he can always be thrown forward and the matchups re-jigged on the day
