Can people please lay off on Matera. He’s a player for our footy club and from what I see, whatever his deficiencies, a lack of effort doesn’t seem to be one of them.
We paid very little for him and I would suggest he wouldn’t be paid very much either. He won our goal kicking last year.
I don’t understand the vitriol towards him. We’ve paid much more for other players that haven’t delivered as much, and had off field issues. I also support these players but many make excuses and blame the club for an inability to harness their abilities.
Matera will probably be delisted next season if list numbers are trimmed to 40. He’s an experienced depth player that has contributed during his time here.

MI think where it crosses over is that he is referred to as a Dud. My comments weren’t directed at Quasi it is a sentiment that is repeated often. He is one of the biggest escaped goats at the club atm. I don’t often take time to sympathise for AFL footballers especially the high paid ones. I have a little more sympathy and lower expectations for the lower paid ones.
PS I haven’t supported his selection for many of the matches he has played this year.

DBTS, I am one who has been very critical of Matera, I also stuck up for Tabs when most regarded him as a dud, and still believe Dawson did a job that he was asked to do. I also stuck up for Headland & Peirce when they were much maligned here, and have been very critical of other players we have carried. I respect your opinion, even if I don't agree with it, and good on you for sticking up for your opinion.

Time will tell who is right, and who is wrong, and I will be the first to apologise if Matera wins us a flag.

That is silly Hypen - onomatopeia is a commonly used term on the Tokyo subway system during peak hours. It's definition is quite simple if you break the word into syllables: onna (one) a pat (a flat cow poop) oh (a surprise sound, probably stepped in a fresh one with a bare foot) pee (which made it fresh) ah (acknowledging that it's oozed between your toes).

With Matera I think it’s because he frustrates people, the gap between his best and worst is huge. He either kicks two or three goals or barely touches it. I did wonder why he was trying to be a lead up forward a few times on Sunday, he got absolutely smashed by the defender.
I thought that was Wilson’s best game of the year, each game for the last few weeks he’s been on the improve.
I think that was Colyer’s best game this year also, he's another player that I’m not sure about and probably will be a depth player as we blood more youth.
Glad Blakely had a good game and hope he now stays in.
Overall I think it will be a revolving door this year as we give Henry, Valante and a couple of others games as injuries bite.
