I agree Gumnut - Sorry Biz - This declaration of SPS as an out and out A Grader may define your judgement from here on?? He hasnt developed as most expected him to.
It will be good to check progress over the next few years but Griff is coming hard as the better pick up IMO.
It could be like Stephen Hill/Daniel Rich..both being stars for many years.

I'm in the SP-S camp - brilliant player that has been almost ground down into a dependable do-everything one by a team desperate, but incapable of improving. He's been wasted in my view - but he will bounce back.

Logue is playing some wonderful football - but SP-S is brilliant. Two different players, I would've grabbed Sam though.

Played a great game on the weekend but rarely beaten? He got absolutely monstered by Dixon against Port. But he was giving away a lot of weight and height, that's why he will be better suited to take the third tall if and when we ever get Pearce and Hamling back.

Sorry Polly but I've watched you draft players for years in the duffle, You are a bad judge when it comes to player selection , and you always favor the indigenous players over the others.

Biz , you're just to stubborn to admit you were wrong.

I like SPS and still think he has a lot of upside. I think Logue is the better pick.
I don’t subscribe to drafting being the ultimate formula to success. What gets done with them after is at least as important.
We may have our issues as a club but I think Carlton have more.
I also think despite all of the hurrah I like Young before Rowell and I’m super excited by Henry.

I'd argue Logue was quite bad against Essendon and Port, below par or maybe average against the skinny young forwards of Gold Coast and Brisbane while good against Adelaide. For a number 8 pick I expect quite a bit more than that, even more so if you're a defender selected early. If you're picked in the top 10 then you need to be winning games for us. Hopefully the latest game is a sign of things to come and he can do that.

As for SPS, it was only last season where he took us apart with 23 touches, 5 marks, 5 tackles and a good goal. He averaged 19.1 touches for the season rotating forward which was a pretty good effort in a terrible team.

This season he's been thrown to half back for some reason in somewhat of a lockdown role given Docherty plays as the quarter back and main outlet from defence. Despite this he picked up 19 and 20 touches in the first two games for the season (despite the shortened quarters) to be amongst Carlton's best players. When he eventually gets a go through the middle, he'll be a premier midfielder of the competition and a match winner. I can't see any argument Logue has had a better season this year let alone career to date than SPS.

I should add, if SPS were at Freo under Sonny and Hill let alone Roger, he would have blossomed and been an absolute jet of the competition by now. Maybe less so under Lyon but as a young player he could have moved past that.

Bizkit might be correct about SPS being a better player than Logue, and I think if it was a straight swap I would very marginally prefer SPS. I don’t think we’ve seen either player in the role they’ll end up in so it’s too early to judge.

From memory we gave up the chance to grab SPS (or McLuggage) and in return we landed CamMac, Pick 7 (Logue) and Pick 35 (traded on for Hamling). I think we’re in a better position now than had we just taken SPS, and if CamMac puts it together and Hamling plays another 3 or 4 years (both big ifs) then we will end up well in front.

One thing to consider is that SPS’s preference was to play in Melbourne. Our recruiting team seems to have pivoted to recriuting players who want to be here. I think for that reason we reached a little to get A Brayshaw when there were no WA kids in the top 5 in the 2017 draft, and so far that's also going pretty well.

Bizkit, you got it wrong, admit it or just don't say anything. You get plenty right.

Anyone who thinks Griffen Logue is anything but one of the competitions most exciting emerging talents is on the defensive.

Morgan agreeing with you should be all the affirmation you need.

I offered plenty of reasoning for why SPS multitude of good games outweighs Logue's single good game. I'd take SPS ahead of Logue pretty easily. That doesn't mean I think Logue will be rubbish but he's still got a long way to go.

Maybe you should check back on this post from last season Hypen, just to gain a refresher!

There's some disagreement between Morgan and I on how well we did out of that draft pick. My argument was in regards to paying over the top for Logue and co while putting at risk our ability to get quality talent in the door. As part of that and the deal with GWS, dropping away to pick 8 for Cammac was way overs when he was going nowhere but Freo and the same goes for Hamling who we can all agree was good value at that pick but still going nowhere else but Freo.
