TOPIC: Who Hosts the Derby?

I can't believe they are considering the Derby will be a West Coast home game? WTF?

thewest.com.au/sport/afl/packed-western-...t-hub-ng-b881586177z

"A packed western derby could welcome Fremantle and West Coast back to Optus Stadium as early as round seven after the WA Government yesterday announced significant changes to the State’s COVID-19 restrictions.

But the question of which side will get to host the fixture is a long way from being decided."

... "But with the financial boon of a full crowd now up for grabs, the league must also decide which club receives the right to host the only derby of the season."

"The Eagles were scheduled to host the first derby of the season when the original fixture was released last year and that would have been played in round seven. Fremantle had the return clash in round 18.

But last month, Fremantle president Dale Alcock declared his club would lobby hard for the right to host the match given the Dockers needed the financial boost more than West Coast."

How many home games in a row do these Wet Toasts need?

I’ve often thought the WAFC lacked a little imagination with the Derby. If you split each Derby 50/50 for fans, you could create one of the best atmospheres for any AFL game during the season. You’d probably still need to allocate the game to a team for signage and corporate hosting though.

Seems like this would be a perfect opportunity to give this a go.

Since when has the AFL fixture been left up to the WAFC's imagination?

Ive never been comfortable with 50 50 crowds at derbys, we hate each other too much. i would be concerned at the ability to control the crowd before during and after the game. After the game at the Camfield is likely to be a bloodbath.

I think the fair outcome is a 50 50 crowd but I dont think I would be comfortable going. I couldn't trust myself not to want to strangle some idiot.

Forget about the Camfield, what about outside the team store caravans?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Fremantle's last two "home" Derbys were at best a 50/50 fan split. I was at both by the way.

I reckon we will have to host the derby because West Coast have played 1 more home game than us. It makes it easy to square up the ledger with giving us a home game for a derby, otherwise they will have 2 more home games than us.

Freo haven’t had a home game since 18 August last year.
About time we had one... : /
The problem is, the Weagles stomp their feet and whine so loudly, that they are heard above others especially us. It seems we are just too cruisey for our own good.

The way I see it. The Wet Toast played at Optus in rnd 1 while we travelled to Melbourne. So surely this is our home game?

Also, this will be a nice financial boost. But I'm not exactly sure how that works.
Lets say we have 25,000 members attend leaving 35,000 spare seats to be sold to Weagles and footy starved supporters. So how much of those 35,000 seat sales goes to us?

FD1016,

the Port game was a 'home game' for Freo...technically.....if you consider hosting a game 3000 kms away as a home game.

AFL at it's finest

Technically the eagles have a “home game” in the hub as well, so they will still have an extra home game than us when we both get back to WA

PK, do you think they will care?

They'll still whinge and whine and those cretins from channel slime will create a huge hullabaloo....as per usual. Equity has no place in the AFL

They should change their name to "The IHC 686's" Their whining is almost worse than the whine from the ol 686 gearbox.
