Coaching. It's been made hard.

If you think coaching has been made hard, have a look at what the poor sod with the oranges has to do these days

Coaching for JLo isn't hard at all - everyone loves the guy and will stand behind him 100%. Everyone, for at least two years (maybe more). Bar none. That's how it is and everyone is 100% ok with that - me too.

But listen, my jibe about Wilson not kicking enough goals was me just funning around. In my view he's a top shelf player, one of the best we have in the team, one of my favourites and I reckon he should be our next captain. Stats, or no stats, doesn't change that - once he gets over whatever injury he has at the moment, he can play where he wants to.

You want to talk about creativity, flair and a booming kick, well the last coach was doing to Nathan Wilson exactly what he did to Nic Suban. A few years too late, but thankfully he got sacked when he did.

You realise that Suban had the best seasons of his career between 2013 and 2016 for total disposals, kicks, inside 50s and scoring shots don’t you?

I guess I’ll just go ahead and add Footywire to my favourites lists now.

I wouldn't get too seduced by the stats. Under the last couple years of the regime, we would win the clearances, contested ball and inside 50s, but where did that get us?

So why was he delisted?

Nick Suban’s best attribute in some order was his intensity, effort, tackling and long kicking. He was a second round pick who played 150 pretty good games for Freo. His whole career he never averaged 15 touches a game, but he was hard enough to make up for that. I’m sure he was admired by the coaching staff, but he never made it into the top 10 of the Doig. Players like him don’t often make it into their 30s as a player, and unfortunately for him he hit his late 20s and was out of contract at a time Freo had gone in the tank and started taking first-round midfielders in the draft.

Of course he was delisted.

Get a new battery for your calculator, Morgan, or leave it in the sun if it is one of those new-fangled solar power jobs. Last 2 seasons for GWS, he kicked 3 & 4 goals, total 7 goals. First 2 seasons for Freo he kicked 1 & zero. That adds up to 6 less goals playing for Freo, according to my old school pencil & paper addition & subtraction. I'm with Clete on this one.

Yes, I was okay with him being delisted but you were making out that he's just had two great seasons, his best ever.

Then finish later with...of course he was delisted. Certainly comes across as contradictory.

Wait till he tells you why Zac Dawson was good.

Morgan
As I said, Suban was really good between 2013 and 2016. He was less good in 2017 and that's when he was delisted.

I'm not sure I ever said Dawson was good, but he was useful. But even I don't have the patience to try and find a stat to support that.

Oh bloody did too, Morgan. And if you didn't how'd you manage 10,000 words on the subject?

I'm happy to stand corrected, but my view on Dawson was that he was a better fit for our backline than SCOS because he could take tall forwards and allow Johnno to play loose. It was a defensive balance thing.

I'm pretty sure I used the word 'limited' a lot, but he was useful.
