The rebuild is over, we were missing a third of our team yesterday and still went damn close.
Add Hogan, Hill, Wilson, Pearce, Hamling, Acres, McCarthy and Sturt to that team, we will compete with anyone.
With Young, Serong, Henry, Fredericks, Butters and co developing in the twos and a new game plan being bedded in, I for one, think we’ll be going close to finals this year and an outside chance of winning it next year.

I heard Gerard Healy saying that Collins is a beauty and a lot of clubs were lining up to get him. RL could see no potential. Also Menegola as mentioned, now a regular in a talented Geelong side, the delisting of Matty Deboer grates on us all as he now is one of the first picked in a Premiership contending side. So glad to have seen the back of RL.

With us 0-2 in a 17 game season finals may be out of reach in the blink of an eye. While we are in this Gold Coast Hub we should play a debutant every game, and keep them in the side. Round 2 Young, Round 3 Serong, Round 4 Henry, Round 5 Fredericks. I also think Tobe Watson is up to the standard but so similar to Duman as a defender.

I reckon 3 or 4 game blocks for each player would be a better way to go, and play a couple of them each week. This will give some continuity to their development, giving fringe players 1 game then dropping them was one of the reasons we spent so many column inches on getting rid of Lyon.

I hear what you are saying Purple Kit and I agree that IF we get our best 22 on the park we have a reasonable team. My issue with that is that we hear this every year and it never happens (which is also the case for a lot of other teams). To be successful teams have to rely on depth or an exceptional run of luck with injuries. Both of those factors have seemed beyond us over the last 5 years. We have too few A graders Fyfe, Walters ....?) and very little depth outside our best 22 - not a profile that brings sustained success.

We need to start seeing them. Serong and Valente are ready, so who makes way. You could say the following? Colyer, Schultz/Matera/Banfield, Bewley?
But none of these are onballers like them. They are midfielders, so who out of our midfield goes out?

Interested in your opinion Polly, and I know how Hypen feels, but we took Brayshaw and Cerra three years ago as top 10 picks. Do you see them as future A graders?

Personally, I'd 'Baby Bomber' it,. Put to the sidelines any 'senior player' not putting in a full showing / 4 quarter effort, and play a kid.

All the blokes on CA's list have had plenty of opportunity to show what they bring to the table. They've played enough games and been at enough clubs.

If they are not capable of being 4 q, influential players, then give a kid the chance to be.

Irrespective of sentimentality, potential potential', or cult status.

The talent is there. I think it might be the best list we've ever had. It's getting them all out there: Henry , Serong, Young, Sturt will be a star. Brayshaw and Cerra are getting there. Logue is a jet and so is Wilson. They've all just got to play football together.


I reckon we've got a great list.

Only thought I have about that Cletus is it's nearly 20 years ago for the baby bombers and I’d hate to see some of our lighter framed kids get really hurt, otherwise I’m with you, play the youf!!

Sheedy had been around a while before ‘93. We know the kids will be around for a little while, and I think a new coach is entitled - and probably should - play a few of the older guys a while to see what he has and ensure the team is competitive and younger guys aren’t physically beaten up.

GC are all of a sudden looking pretty good from having to play a lot of youngsters. The fact that Rowell looks like a young bull and hasn't turned 19 yet, and can play as well is something we need. Valente has the same build, is two years older and Fyfe's been talking him up in the media so would like to see him get a go.
