TOPIC: Darcy-Where To?

Is he becoming a liability? He seems to be injured more often than fit. We want to play Lobb as a forward but he is constantly playing in the ruck due to Darcy be injured. Time to bring Meek in and see how he goes?
I never thought of Darcy as a trade but where to for him? Persevere or trade?

Unfortunately ruckmen don't grow on trees. There was debate about trading for English but that guy gets towelled up every week.

He's only 21. A lot of years in front of him one hopes.

I would trade him. See if we can lure an out of favour ruckman from another team. Nankervis from tigers springs to mind.

If you were playing a must-win game right now you’d probably leave him out and play Lobb in the ruck.

But...most big ruckman don’t hit their stride until their mid-20s. Also Lobb also isn’t built for a decade-long ruck career.

A few years in the gym and learning the caper and he’ll be a key cog in our 2024 premiership tilt.

Eventually
Darcy is a smart ruckman, has good skills but needs some time out again to recuperate those knees. Time to give Meeks some experience and leave Lobb as the back-up.

He's a liability.
Over-rated, slow, no defensive ability, appears disinterested and the sooner we get rid of him the better.
The only way I would like to see him play for us again is if he lines up and runs through Margetts.

I don't think he's been 'right ' for about a year now. Looked injured in the last half of last season. And whether by injury, or instruction, he had a limited approach to his game.

I'd argue that the sports scientists have tried to 'sculpt him' too much. Just let him be Sean Darcy.

Let him 'See ball , get ball', let him just run a couple of laps at training, let him push a few blokes around, , and chuck him a couple of pies & a coke every now & then....

But theres no point to him playing injured. I agree with CA...give Meek a crack at it..

I don’t think Meek gets a look in yet. Lobb to the ruck and Taberner or Cox provide the back up. Clears up space for Hogan to slot back in.

Lobb in the ruck and let Fyfe take care of the ruck duties in the forward half. You know it makes sense!

Actually meant to hit reply instead of you beaut. Who plays CHB for Cox to ruck? Both he and Tabener have shown that they are next to useless as ruckmen and we badly need Lobb's marking power in the forward line. He has always stated his preference to play as a forward but doesn't get the chance. He's an ideal back up ruckman, if only we had another ruckman.
Give Meek a go. We keep talking about wanting to see our youngsters and he's one of them.

And sorry RO, no it doesn't. Can you name any of the other best midfielders in the comp being used as a ruckman anywhere around the ground? Cripps, Bontempelli, Martin, Dangerfield, etc?

Cox and Tabs are 'flat out' trying to work out what they ARE meant to be doing.

Don't confuse them by giving them ruck duties...!

Give Meek a go and lets see where he's at. We've had enough 'list filler' ruckman over the past 8 years, ( Hannath, Jones, Zac, Strnadica).

Get Meek in there.

Cox is a centre half back, play him there, and Logue shut Cameron down after half time. Hipwood and McStay didn't do much so leave them there and play Meek as a ruckman.

Initially I was a huge Darcy fan. I dont know if he’s been injured in his last few hit outs but he has seemed extraordinarily slow and very much a lumbering type ruckman. He’s young so has time.
I like Lobb when he’s in the ruck but tend to agree with a previous poster, that his body type might not be suited to a permanent role.
I would like to see Meek given a go. I haven’t seen much of him but what I have seen I thought was ok.
With Hogan looking like he might be ready to go, I’m not sure the forward line will work with Taberner, Lobb and Hogan.
