They were poor - the front half simply lack class . Shultz and banfield are tri hards. Tabs well is tabs. If I had to do a pros and cons on him - he is just in the pros but his cons hurt.
Yong was very ordinary but his first game so too early to tell. Matera goes missing too much.

The unforced errors are still the worst in the competition but that will take time To fix. Skill level overall not AFL standard .
Bewley late in he last qtr had time and space to simply hit Mundy on the wing and instead of a simple mark ball went out of bounds. He was not alone but really abysmal.
Yes close losses on the back of shorter quarters and effort but not much class.

Longumuir will need time to undo the last 4 years , but the guys are persistent I give them that.

With our "A Team" we would have won both games this year so the future looks very good. It is frustrating to see so much A grade talent not playing and so many B graders trying their best but not having the class or finish to get us over the line. I look forward to that changing over the coming weeks.

We just simply have to get the young blokes into that team.

If the new ones can get even half the chance that Brayshaw & Cerra have had, well, we'll start going places.

Thankfully Young got a go, but you have to ask why he wasn't in the original line up.'?

There are still too many 'hangers on' in the line up, and we are still too reliant on Fyfe, Walters & Mundy to come in and save us.

Cerra & Brayshaw are now going into their 3rd year. They need to be more. than they are.

Is Bewley really are better proposition than say, Serong??

And what is Shultz?? ...he's certainly not a dynamic small forward..

Banfield is a tagger at best. If there's a role for him doing this, play him, but he's not a small forward.

So Serong in, Sturt in, Hogan will have to come in for Lobb to carry the Ruck, Cox & Tabs 'need a rocket put under them' and Cerra & Brayshaw need to repay the faith that has been put in them.

And Matera is oo off & on still...

Darcy Tucker is in his 5th season and played 70 games. What exactly have we got with him?? A steady player who pops up now & then....

Sooner Liam Henry & Micheal Fredricks are in, the better...!!

Then again, we came within a few points of Brizzy,, away from home, as rusty as we could be. Its just frustrating that we could be so much better than we are, if there was a lift in skills.

Wilson was a huge loss today. Our defenders gave away too many easy goals and didn’t get enough of the ball. Wilson would have at least got possessions and kicked with a bit of penetration. Young may be a talent but was obviously overawed today. Nine of our players had less than 10 possessions (Brisbane had five). And I’m not sure why they persist with Matera - almost never gets the hard ball. In spite of all that we recovered well and nearly stole the game again and were defeated by a decision that was disgraceful even by Margett’s standards. Tabs couldn’t kick a set shot to save himself but still should have had 3 goals and we can’t do without that. And I enjoyed watching Freo for the first time since mid-2015.

I feel for Fyfe, he has no support around him....plenty of ball watching bystanders and there’s no apparent team cohesion contrary to what the coach states. Painful to watch.

I recall one passage of play which seemed skilful.

Don't get too carried away, Noddy, Fyfe did a bit of ball watching in the first quarter, when we needed a good start. Most players out there had a go.

Mundy was down on what you would expect, Lobb was not a dominant player, Ryan took a while to get into the game. I thought Logue showed signs of filling the huge hole left after Grover retired, Taberner is a forward, and the young players will get better.

Both Round 1 and 2 games we showed a bit of promise and got close enough to snatch a win if luck had been with us. Good signs for JLo, I think, the play is far more watchable than what was dished up in previous seasons. However, too much of the grunt work and matchwinning play is left to Fyfe and Walters. I wish that players such as Brayshaw, Cerra, etc would put in a 3-Brownlow Vote performance every now and again - they are capable but seem to lack belief in themselves to take their games next level.

Maybe they're not capable of it though? Was it Leigh Matthews who said that by 50 games you pretty much know what you've got?
Cerra hasn't spent as much time in the midfield but I don't think I'd be own my own in hoping for more by now from some guys but there is a big difference between looking good in U/18s then taking the next step to become a champion.

50 games in a Leigh Mathews coaches side at least 10 years ago would be different to the modern learning game style played under he who shall not be named.
I thought Cerra delivered some quality inside 50’s. Brayshaw delivers great effort but lacks polish.
I hope Tucker has more upside, if he gets to a 100 games at the expense of seeing if someone like North can play at the level required.
Blakely is the perfect replacement for Nat Fyfe in the middle when he goes forward, play him there.

I imagine when Matthews said that the players were getting to 50 AFL games after they'd played at least another 50 games in the reserves.

100 AFL league games is almost considered development these days.
