It's funny you say that, because I’ve been working on a patent for an ‘AFL Crowd Noise App/Plug In’ The premise is everyone at home watching live can register a crowd noise in real time through the AFL Live App, which is aggregated and played at the ground. It would also include a field where you could write a comment yelled by a specialist yeller at the game. Here’s my initial sketch, which includes a custom version for West Coast fans.

Fair on both counts Polly, but when you're trying to get something to the patent office, time is of the essence.

Now, maybe you can help me with some of the custom options:

i. Should 'racially vilify’ be a specific option for Collingwood fans, or do you reckon they’d prefer to use the free-form comments option and just have a racist yeller at the game?

ii. For Sydney fans, should the option be ‘clap politely’ or ‘applaud’?

iii. For Gold Coast fans, should there be an option that says ‘no noise’ or is that superfluous?

iv. If you used ‘clink wine glasses’ for Melbourne fans, are there enough of them for that to constitute a health and safety risk for the audio guy?

Yeah, this has got me thinking about how to provide 'atmosphere' at the footy.

Rather than using 'canned laughter' or computer controlled booing machines, I've just had a great idea after watching an ad for Gogglebox. Now, my thinking here is we put a 'shock collar' on all egurls supporters that instead of being triggered by barking, these get triggered by booing.

Then we can all amuse ourselves listening for the boo that turns into a high pitched shriek all on national television. It doesn't matter then if it's a boring game because let's be honest, the entertainment value of shrieking egurls trumps just about everything

Some good ideas Morgan with one exception. A comment box for Collingwood fans would assume that they can construct a sentence. Maybe simplify it to a limit of 12 characters, which should cover most of their two word 'comments'.

I'd like the shock collar idea to be implemented upon the umpires.

Apart from the fact that they'd soon 'get the idea', it would also be mildly amusing....

If you could hit a button on an app, everytime they get things wrong, so that they get a collective 'zap'.... well...we are talking 'real progress'...and, we'd be taking the game forward from a crowd participation level as well....!

Just put it on the drawing board, Morgs, for after you've finished with the others...
