Hi all,
bit of a self indulgent plea follows, I hope Shane allows it during this quiet time.
Some of you may know that I have a pretty extensive collection of Dockers items, ranging from a comprehensive card collection to match-worn/player-issued jumpers.
I am on the lookout for plenty of things Freo, including but not limited to: 'The Docker/Docker News' publications (the newspapers from Oct 1994-2002- only have about half of these), 2003 Edition 1 of the Docker News magazine(Matty Carr on cover), any club merchandise catalogues, any early club-issued correspondence, any club gala dinner menus, any coterie group-issued items, particularly early badges (yes, these can be big ticket items) key rings or membership cards (eg harbour master/ quay club/dockers supporter club), and preseason records or player sheets from scratch matches. I have recently started to store Newspaper liftouts, so maybe those as well. If you kept if for a reason and didn't throw it out at the time, but it is just sort of hanging around, give me the opportunity to annoy my wife even more!
I also collect match worn/player issued jumpers, team-signed footballs, caps and to a lesser extent ties- my jumper collection is reasonable, but always on the lookout for key pieces- match and training jumpers from mostly 1995-2002, heritage jumpers, purple haze jumpers, and other, later 'promo' jumpers. I'm even just interested to hear if you have certain jumpers, because a lot of jumpers just disappear into the ether, and anecdotaly get 'thrown out', or rarely re-surface in op shops. Stuff like this can take a hit on the secondary market if it has been bought from a club auction, but I will never try and rip anyone off, however I do have a fair bit of knowledge of value. This is a rising area of interest in general, and there is at least one fremantle super-collector of jumpers, although he doesn't really have as much interest once he has collected that style. Unless its Mundy.
If I have a weakness here, it is for # 26, so if you know of ANY Clive/Kep/Langdon pieces, drop me a line. Even if just to let me know they exist.
I'm not investing per se, more saving and compiling this stuff, because frankly while the club once was a repository of knowledge, that ceased a long time ago, would be even worse now, and sadly is falling to hard-core collectors to manage externally. There are a few notable Eagles collectors, not so many serious Freo ones. If you have a similar interest let me know as well. I'd be very interested to compare notes.
